The last few years has drawn me to West Holts to watch something I dont normally go for, last year was Major Lazer which my teenage kids thought was hilarious watching there 40 something year old Dad on the tele bouncing around with people half my age and some.

So this year is a working Glastonbury but Friday night off so have been looking at the line up and have just discovered an interseting DJ, certainly more suitable to lovers of the shrooms but all said and done I'm a sucker for deranged right out there tunes, and this guy certainly fits the bill.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the twisted variety, welcome to the superb world of The Gaslamp Killer Experience he's gotta be the love child of Tommy Chong!

Ahhh the gaslamp killer.. what can i say.. i have seen him at least 5 times because he is very popular where im from (amsterdam). Amazing dj, amazing performer and incredible energy. He manages to play all styles of music and make it all work together. Havent seen his "experience" live thing yet but he is high on my list of must sees, pretty sure he clashes with something major so not sure yet.. very glad to see glasto has finally booked him!

From the west holts facebook page...

"The Gaslamp Killer Experience

The Gaslamp Killer is an LA based DJ and producer wielding experimental hip hop, psychedelia and world music influences into beat heavy soundscapes. He’s associated with Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint and the legendary Low End Theory club night. In 2013 he was involved in a near fatal traffic accident and to pay the medical bills he assembled some of LA finest musicians to perform a concert at the city’s Mayan Theatre with the set subsequently released as a live album. For Glastonbury he’ll re-create that amazing performance with the help of the Heliocentrics (BTW if West Holts had a house band it would be them).

The clash with Akua Naru is a bad'n, I reckon this one isn't to be missed though.

Coachella Live review;

If you're familiar with the blistering DJ sets of the Low End Theory linchpin, you might have been shocked by the arrangement on display for the Gaslamp Killer Experience, including a 14-piece orchestra melding bass music with Turkish psych-rock. It revealed the latest iteration of the ferocious TGK as bandleader and conductor — maybe like Beirut, the Bomb Squad, and Syd Barrett coming together after an afternoon huffing DMT; mournful Levantine brass blending with Björk, Burning Man and Bali dance routines. Then there's the Killer himself, writhing and barking to the crowd, "We all feel darkness sometimes, but the darkness in my soul is very fucking real." He danced in a tie-dye tanktop and dropped to the floor growling. It was soul music from the most charcoal corners of the mind. The bad trip and the good trip fused into one bizarre ride.

What kind of music does he play, haven't got access to sound at the min to check the link....

The answer to that is haven't got a clue what set of genres to class it as to explain! Trippy, distorted, happy, dark, so much of everything really, just difficult to explain :)
