Admittedly, I enjoyed it initially, then just got very cynical about it all. I do find him a dick now, but theres already been plenty of discussion about that.

Mystery Show is a new one I like. It's very much in the This American Life mould (think the creator/presenter worked on that too). Starlee Kine (I know, but it's not like it's her fault) solves mysteries for people. But it's more about how she interacts with people and is really interested in them. I listened to the 2nd one on my drive back from Glastonbury, which might explain some of my reaction to it, but there's a bit in it where she's talking to a customer service agent on the phone which is just so lovely. It could've been cheesy and patronising and naff, but it's just great. And she has a slight lisp which is just adorable (again, post Glastonbury)

The Scoobious Pip podcast has been the find of this thread for me.Absolutely love it,the Gail Porter ones were deep but so worth it.

Just discovered "Sword and Scale" via Joe Rogan's message board. Incredibly well made true crime podcast. He takes a case you probably wont be aware of, and breaks it down and plays recorded interviews with the key people in the case, gives background, discusses the build up and aftermath. 

I really cant praise it enough, the production values and presentation are superb.

The one that got me hooked was episode 5 & 6. A two parter about the Franklin Credit union scandal, and the huge suspected cover up that surrounds it - including a large number of suspicious deaths surrounding key players. Yorkshire Television made an hour long documentary about the case back in the early 90's, it was never broadcast. A few years ago a copy of the unfinished program was "leaked" to the investigators. I would advise listening to the 2 podcasts before watching it, as the podcast follows a story not included in the programme.

 

 

I am just starting episode 33, another two parter about Luka Magnotta, it appears to be equally fascinating.

I would avoid episode 35, as it involves some very graphic descriptions of child murder and cannibalism.

Thanks for this recommendation. Have been loving it, episodes 5, 6 & 7 all had me fascinated and disgusted.

You're not the guy who has been to loads of his shows that he talks about are you? (haven't listened to the live one yet, but I know he's in it)

No, it's about Bowe Bergdahl, so looks like it's taking quite a different tack. Much bigger, higher profile case, and still active too.

Every week I listen to iFanboy (atrocious name, and they have acknowledged that, but they chose it 10 years ago and are stuck with it). They review the week's comic releases, talk about a "pick of the week" comic, and take audience questions. Also they do special episodes now and then for comics-related films. A lot of the comics they talk about don't match my personal tastes, but I really like the way the hosts talk about the craft of comics, they've helped me understand the medium more and increased my enjoyment of comics. Also they're funny to listen to, it's very laden with in-jokes now, but I love listening and it's a big part of the reason I still buy single issue comics like a chump instead of switching solely to collected editions and Marvel Unlimited.

I also really like The Star Wars Minute. They discuss each Star Wars film, minute by minute. Each 10-15 episode consists of the two hosts and one guest talking about one minute of the film, they started with the first Star Wars and have moved forward chronologically by release, currently they're about 20 minutes into The Phantom Menace. It has a daily release schedule, so I usually just wait for a few weeks and binge for a couple of hours while cooking or cleaning or something. Definitely one for the obsessives, but very entertaining if it's your thing.

I think this is a podcast to, but its up on youtube to, its pretty cool. They have 3 guests and have to debate/answer questions, person with the best answer wins. Kevin Smith features this week, as well as the guests having to argue the case for the best prequel Star Wars movie after being given one of them.
