Homebrew at Glastonbury

never home brewed but we bought a 20L bag in box ale from Saltaire Brewery to bring with us and by the time we'd carted it across a few fields it was feisty to say the least. It was in far, far from its best condition sadly!!

Brilliant product for a party at home with minimal movement and the ability to chill it down but not a good product for a festival.

A reasonable alternative is old golden hen in cans as its a good pale hoppy beer that will stay fresh and cold. There are very few pale hoppy ales that are both good value, nice tasting and canned.

This is why I'm thinking of making a strongish 5.5-6% well hopped IPA in 2l bottles. Leave them in a lockup for a day or so after getting there to settle and then take a few out at a time.

I like to do 1 litre of pineapple to every 4 litres of Apple. Takes longer to clear than straight Apple but it's worth it

I figure 2x 25 litre brews will be way too much, but I'm sure it will get drank

Someone I met at university (way back when you actually could get a grant rather than a loan) used to do something similar to what you suggest. The he used to take the alcohol produced and distill it all over again. Then he used to test the smaller amount of liquid produced for methanol. If it was OK he would drop a reasonably large lump of black in to it which would soon disintegrate into tiny particles. He would then make cocktails from the end product. After two or three of those things started to get nice and messy, mentally speaking. Just to add to the madness he had rigged up an ex navy oscillascope (I'll not name the famous ship it came off) to his hi fi system. I recall watching it in a very happy daze for quite some time one evening.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
