I have a tendency to believe that these are kids that leave the place in such a mess. They probably leave their bedrooms or dorms in the same mess , though I know I'm probably wrong, those mature grown ups surely wouldn't leave it in such a mess.... would they? We for one take everything we bring back.

In the past I've been given black and clear green bags for recycling but I haven't seen them in the last couple of years so we've ended up taking rubbish to the nearest bins instead

Yes I've got them but sometimes you have to look out for them on the way in as they are often a short distance from the gate.

It makes me so mad we didn't get tickets this year so really disappointed, but I wont miss the blatant disregard that people have regarding the site and the fact it is a working farm. Every year I am astounded by the fact these people don't know what a bin looks like and that someone has to pick up the filth and rubbish they leave everywhere. As for leaving gear on site where do I start I am a young older person and I hate the throw away society and the attitude it doesn't matter I will buy another next year, TAKE YOUR GEAR HOME FOLKS.

I go to another festival which charges a re-cycling deposit of £10 per ticket. At the start of the festival you are given different bags for different waste products. At the end of the festival you take these bags to a central processing point and are given your £10 back. It works at this festival and everything is clean on the Monday after the festival. The problem with trying something like this at Glastonbury is that people are already leaving behind hundreds of pounds worth of kit so another £10 probably wouldn't make a difference. Then if you were to levy a higher re-cycling charge like £50 per ticket then those on low incomes wouldn't be able to afford to go to the festival.

I don't think this issue will ever get resolved at Glastonbury I'm afraid. Just got to clear up your own space so you can go away with a clear conscience. Oh, and maybe do a bit of tatting too (where it's blatantly obvious stuff has been discarded).

Have to say there is very little marshalling of the "get out." No-one patrolling to challenge the limp-assed shitbirds as they slope off leaving their el-cheapo Tesco encampment intact. Also there are very few visible refuse points where people can dispose of bulky unwanted stuff. You tend to get an oasis of shit around the oil-drum sized bins. Perhaps some serious waste collection presence around the site might encourage people to pull up and dump unwanted tents etc as they leave....and not have an excuse to leave it to to others.

Some good suggestions here, a much increased campaign along the lines of 2007 (unfortunately scuppered somewhat by the weather) and bringing back the green police to patrol the fields Sunday night/Monday morning would be good, they certainly helped reduce the amount of peeing in the bushes.

A radical suggestion would be just to take one of the popular camping fields, Pennards or Big Ground probably, and turn it into pre-erected camping - combined with a strong publicity campaign this would hopefully attract the people who only suffer the camping to be at the festival, leaving their equipment on site as they leave. Wouldn't be popular with regulars but I reckon it would signicantly reduce the problem in the worst hit areas.

We always take everything with us home, bag up our rubbish and leave by the bins. I've mentioned it before. I'm suprised the fest doesn't have a love your tent field for like minded folk...

we left monday at 11am last year and the east campervan fields were spotless. All of the rubbish and recycling placed in the correct place too! I put it down to the average camper/caravan owner being a bit older, not having to carry stuff and not wanting to drive over rubbish. but still, it was nice to see that it was left as it was found.

I have also left a tent or two at festivals before. I was much younger then. I feel suitably ashamed. It is a throw away generation thing. A come down infused hangover can easily lead to throwing away every and all worldly goods in exchange for quicker comfort when you consider nothing other than your own agenda. Fortunately I have now grown up and come to the realisation that leaving your tent or anything else not suitably recycled behind at a festival is no better than going round and pissing on your own mother's living room carpet, and everything comes home, hopefully to return another year.

When people do this tatting thing, how do you ensure that you're not stealing something somebody's going to come back for later? it's a great way to reduce the environmental and economic impact of waste, but I'd be way too concerned that I was unintentionally nicking someone's stuff!

Maybe. We went on a wander on Monday morning/early afternoon last year and I was forever worrying about coming back to an empty patch of grass! Just wondered if there was an 'ettiquette', so to speak!
