Working at the festival

Hi all! First(ish) time poster, been lurking for a few years though!
I've done Glasto for the past 15 years (Since I was 4!) but didn't manage to get tickets this year! I'm gonna keep an eye open for secret resales but i'm not hopeful :( And stupidly I've left it far too late to get in with Oxfam or any of the other big steward providers.

Is there any other way of getting into the festival this late via volunteering? I would prefer to be doing something like stewarding, but I don't mind anything providing I get to see the festival!

I know someone who works for WBC is very helpful, and has posted a link to a website I believe he/she wrote to advise on ways of working at the fest, however I can't for the life of me seem to find any of his/her posts related to working there! :(
Thanks for any help :)

its here http://www.wbc-team.co.uk/fest-jobs.html

look at http://www.dcsiteservices.com/

' We're pleased to be able to let you know that job allocations for the events and festivals coming up in the next few months will begin soon! If you haven't already, please be sure to check that your DCSS PAAM profile is up to date. This will give you the best possible chance of being selected to work with us this summer! We're receiving a lot of queries with regards to whether there are still jobs available at the 2014 Glastonbury Festival. We're happy to be able to confirm that we do still have jobs available at Glastonbury'

so that is your best bet ' but you have to do it fast '

I have just registered with DC sites but I can't help being a bit concerned that they want my bank details at this stage when I know so little about them.

I can't see where it says your bank details a secure? Is anyone able to verify that this is definitely legit? Starting Glastonbury recruitment at this late stage seems a little odd to me. This is usually sewn up by now isn't it? I can't help feeling a bit suspicious at someone immediately asking for people's bank details to volunteer at Galstonbury right after its sold out. Who asks for your bank details at application stage? No-one I have ever come across before.

Thanks for the responses all, that's the link I was looking for, Glasto-worker! Will definitely try with DC and the Somerset Film co. (Cheers glastorose!)

Good luck to anyone else trying, and thanks again all :D

Didn’t think it through properly and it turns out I won’t be able to get to Glastonbury on the Tuesday, possibly not even until Thursday. Suppose I’ve got no chance of a refund, given the cancellation deadline has already passed? (Cancellations are the only reason I got a place, after all)

This is less than ideal.

If you paid online then almost everything is covered by distance selling regulations so you have some kind of cooling off period within which a 100% refund has to be given. This may not be covered, but I would be surprised, almost everything is. They may say no, but usually you have 7 days, no need to give a reason and they are obliged to pay you back. Worth a call/email.

They got back to me and basically said refund wasn’t an option. Thing is I was exaggerating a bit as I *can* actually make it on the Tuesday, it’s just extremely inconvenient (for other people, more than myself). I’d have happily taken the refund but I’ll just have to deal with the bother as I don’t want to lose the deposit and miss out all together.

Did spot that, yeah. I can get the Shelter bus (although I might have to travel a bit, depending on where they leave from). I’d have preferred a refund (I’d have been on the lookout for a ticket next week) because I’m going to have to miss out on other commitments now, but I can’t afford to just throw the deposit away and I do really want to go, so it’s not the end of the world.

Do any of you working for Shelter know when/how I can go about requesting to be put on shifts with a friend? I've been told you can do this but does that get done in advance or on arrival?

Pretty sure when I put my application in to shelter I named my wife at that time as a desired shift partner. Bus timetables have not yet been given out, nor have car park passes as far as I am aware. (We are getting the bus and a friend also working for Shelter is driving).

Shouldn't be too long now I wouldn't have thought.

    • What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.
    • Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......
    • I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
