Seriously though some people live hand to mouth and don't have the time or freedom that more money would allow them to consider such luxuries. It may not technically cost money to walk in the park or read a book but there are so many aspects of life that would put someone in a position to be able to do those things that do cost money.

I guess we are fortunate(?) to live in a capitalist society where we can abuse other socities for cheap materials, labour and services that allow most of us to live in relative comfort with free time to engage in enjoyable and enriching activities (not to mention remain in a positive state of mind that allows us to recognise those as worthwhile activities).

I can't help but feel that your argument would fall on deaf ears when put to a foreign labourer working three jobs to send money home where his wife and kids are still living in a genocidal war zone. I know this is complete hyperbole by the way and probably stretching the original argument somewhat.
