But even though the TV coverage is terrible (worse than V), at least Download get a whole week of build-up and then selected live coverage on Radio 1 (and Kerrang I think?). Dedicated special issues of Kerrang magazine as well.

And obviously BBC TV are dead keen on being at Glastonbury and Reading because they're cultural institutions with international reputations (at least the former is, the latter depending on who you talk to). A cultural institution is something V will never ever be - although in fairness you'd be hard pushed to say it pretends to be.

'The MTV Stage' sounds a lot more credible to me than 'The 4Music Stage', too, although I appreciate they're only stage names which most festival-goers probably wouldn't even know if you asked them.

They've tried to get a better TV deal but they say mainstream channels won't touch Download due to it being a niche market.

V is giving the punters whats top of the charts and people are buying, I've always wondered why the organisers have such an awful time getting good tv slots etc. No surprise Live Nation have took over V, its getting a fresh lick of paint and a new TV deal before the first fest under their control has even happened yet. Maybe V will stop being the festival that charges the most for the least?

If V ever got TV coverage like that the 'go to be on TV' percentage of the crowd would skyrocket though - and given how that side of things has killed Reading I'm not sure it wouldn't be a double-edged sword.

if you watched that and didn't know it you'd hardly be able to tell it was Channel 4 at V rather than BBC Two at Glasto. I know it's an exception rather than the rule and nothing in 2013 got that sort of coverage but C4 weren't all bad.

I know many people who have - okay they've not all gone 'to get on TV' but lots and lots of people go to 'look cool and post on Facebook that they're at Reading'. In fact my own sister is falling for that this year, depressingly. When I pulled her up on which Blink 182 song she liked best she said..."oh well we can still get drunk".

In Scotland over the T weekend there is constant coverage late at night on BBC 1, 2 and 3 they go at it in a big way although, there is a BBC Scotland so it's probably only shown on that

That's allright though because no mainstream donkey is gonna have heard of it so it's actually half-interesting, the 107th out of focus photo in a single evening of the 'great view' of Biffy Clyro from the back of a crowd of 60,000 people was not

I don't think MTV taking over from 4Music will change the festival one bit. They both play to the same audience who like the same music, and it's unlikely the sponsors will have much say in the bands booked. They were interested in sponsoring the stage/festival/getting TV rights based on the current audience so it will continue as is.
