He's announced a show at Leigh Sports Village in Wigan, the Sunday before Glastonbury. I've just moved to Bolton and was mopey about it being a cultural blackhole, it has officially redeemed itself.

It's still there, wow. I'd imagine that when I went you might well have still been in nappies :)

Some others my fading memory cells just about remember- Zero 6, TOTS, Ilford Palais, Room at the Top, Hollywoods. Lacey Lady (Kings). At least half of those demolished by now. Anyway, that's enough of all my yesterdays!

Speaking to someone today who is a massive elton fan and has met him on a number of occassions, she tells me that he is trying to play places he has never played before ... Mmm more ammunition for Glastonbury

I told her that Glastonbury was the same weekend and she informed me that she would be able to go as the fan club would get tickets dfnately - had to tell her em probably not... She looked most upset and said the fan club offered bestival tickets for elton fans ....

Nice to know there are a few of us Essex girls around here :)

The best thing about growing up in Chelmsford was when V festival landed at the the tender age of 14. It was like all my Christmases had come at once - a festival I was allowed to go to! It was good back then too. Pulp in 96.

What's this token thing then? I've not been since 2000!

If there was ever someone I wanted to see I might consider a day ticket but there just isn't any more. Same for Reading. Can sometimes hear V from my parents' back garden though if I'm around that weekend.

Anyone remember the Chelmsford Spectacular?! Saw Eternal and Bad Boys Inc there as a kid!

That sounds like a massive faff! What's the logic there I wonder?

It's not sad - I could see how it would be a laugh with the right bunch of mates. Strange looking back to think I saw Supergrass, Elastica, Pulp, Placebo, Manics, Suede, Prodigy, Blur and Dandy Warhols all at V. It did used to be pretty good.

T in the Park is the same I think the idea is folk are served quickly if no tills, easy adding up and no change is required.

It means the punters get pissed about with double queues organisers get more profit and customers have all the hassle.

Also to save queuing people often buy too many tickets and ended up taking them home or giving them away.

I know it was pretty good back in the day. Mind you you can still miss most of the rubbish - this year we managed to see James, Travis, Ocean Colour Scene, Stereophonics amongst others so not all pop and X Factor bands
