There's a lot of studies pointing to evidence that younger generations are becoming stupid. This is backed up by facts. Basically nothing ever goes into deep memory because before our brains process things into deep memory i.e give a subject a real good thinking about or working out, we get distracted by the myriad of high tech attractions around us. Email, FB, twitter, etc etc. If we really need to know something then we just google it. Knowledge has never been so freely available and we just don't need our brains to access it.

Music has become like that. It's disposable and doesn't need to be analysed or digested. What music around now will be listened to in 5-10 years? Let alone 50 like the greats of the past are managing. The "artists" can't even play it which personally I think is insulting. I won't pay to watch someone play an MP3 of something he knocked together. I'll pay a fortune to see someone play an instrument well though or sing well. Maybe it is time for me to bow out and move up to Radio Quiet FM, not because my tastes are old, more because I'm old enough to know better. Some of the stuff we are being fed now is really really shite. The worrying thing is though they can replicate it and produce a storm of clones of everything almost overnight. Any real quality is drowned out by the exploitation and fast buck making. People are becoming musically stupid. They must be, how else could Calvin Harris be accepted as a headline performer? He stands and plays records FFS, Shite ones at that.

I don't mind Calvin Harris - not someone I would go out of my way to listen to but saw him last year at T (it was my 1st one so maybe not bearing the same animosity as those who are sick of him taking up spots on the lineup) and really enjoyed it. Got pished with my pals and jumped about like an idiot for an hour. Maybe all the sun got to me but I will have no problems about doing it again this year.

I have no real issue with the likes of Harris as a genre and a music experience. I have enjoyed him at T when it was a novelty slot. His music is fine if you are in a club and want to get pished and jump around. When you are paying top dollar to see live musicians though and you are presented with a guy playing CDs with a fancy lightshow it's a rip off. Would you pay £70 to go watch a big screen erected in the middle of a football stadium instead of the real live event? What about if we recorded the game earlier and then got the teams to jump around underneath waving their arms about?

again i have no issue with harris as a genre. i didnt mind when he was the alternative to the headline act for whichever night he was scheduled but the fact hes now headlining is the part i personally find hard to deal with as he is a glorified button pusher. it may not even be him behind the decks and we wouldnt even know, they could have anyone there and play a cd. its sad that he is what is classed as a headline act these days but i can understand the appeal of people getting pished and jumping around but surely doing that to a talented band or musician is more appealing when u pay top money to go to a music festival. appreciate he sells tickets so makes sense to the organisers but its such a shame

No arguments from me on the 'CD playing' and 'button pressing' comments, still doesn't mean you can't enjoy it.

Not a fan of modern Rock/Indie music, with a few exceptions, so was actually hoping he/another DJ/Hip-Hop type would do a similar slot to last years Calvin/Guetta R1 Headliners. Biffy seem to put on a good show tho so not as big a spanner in the works!

Whats the chances of a decent hip-hop act doing a slot like snoop last year??

Thought Biffy were excellent when they played the SECC last year. They seem to have finally found out how to put together a good stage show as well as a good live performance as well. That was always something that they seemed to be TRYING to get right and just couldn't.

I think last time Biffy suffered for being sandwiched between Dizzee Rascal and Jay Z. Crowd was ready for some rap, not rock. Killed the atmosphere a bit. Definitely wasn't there best performance either though.

From the Wakestock and LeeFest announcements (both are same weekend at T), I reckon we could be getting Frightened Rabbit and Razorlight.

EDIT: Probably Frank Turner, Tom Odell and Clean Bandit too
