Larger Pyramid arena? Eavis says it is

Just noticed this in a piece on NME.com:

Eavis also said that the Pyramid Stage area has been extended to make sure the site doesn't become overcrowded during their performance, though he added he is still concerned about how popular the set will be, saying: "There might be a problem with the size of the crowd so it's slightly worrying for me, in a way

Now given the pyramid arena is basically dictated by the permanent paths and hedges the only way I think it could be any bigger is cutting down on the backstage area i.e. moving it a bit closer towards the Other Stage. That feels fairly unlikely to me. Perhaps they've just "decluttered" the Pyramid arena a little or maybe the NME is plan wrong about what ME was saying.

I'm sure the Stones will attract a big crowd on Saturday night, but I'm not sure I expect it to be the biggest ever (especially given the extended numbers in the days before the superfence)

Anybody know the truth?

If people dont use those bloody camping chairs there'd be plenty of space for everybody :P

Guess they could've taken a bit from the camping at the back but as far as I remember the shape of the field back there means there's not much they could take off whilst still giving people stood there a view of the stage

Both good points - silly of me to forget the stage is permanent.

In my mind the Pyramid arena is essentially marked from camping space by permanent tracks so will be interesting to see what, if anything, is different.

Shifting the Mandela bar makes sense; that said there's currently a fair chance that it's name will get it a fair amount of attention at this year's festival.

In my mind though they'll have had to remove some hedges to make those small extensions possible: /topic/175613-glasto-2013-map-overlaid-on-2011-map/" title="">http://www.efestival...id-on-2011-map/

It's just been mentioned on Worthy FM that they've nicked some space off Row Mead to provide more room for the Pyramid crowd. The Pilton Palace brigade et al will no doubt be a tad displeased  but let's face it, it often gets pretty silly along that track up there at various times most years never mind with the Stones playing.

You're one of the Pilton Palace brigade ? Nice one :) How on earth have you managed to bag the same most excellent spot every year for just about as long as I can remember ! I've always wandered past numerous times every year en route to/from Hitchin Hill ... with significantly more than the merest hint of envy it has to be said
