Had a superb long weekend on the continent. Saw Marco Van Basten leading his Heerenveen side off the coach in Nijmegen - a player I loved watching in his prime. NEC won the game 2-1, their first win in 11 attempts, and their hero is a 30 year old scouser - one Michael Higdon, who has previously played for Crewe, Falkirk, St Mirren, and Motherwell. The NEC fans sing the well used version of walking in a winter wonderland in English in his honour. A nice touch I thought.

The Hanover game was ruined by a very poor referee who gave a penalty that never was, and sent off a player for nothing, all inside the first quarter of an hour. Hanover ended up with 9 men and Hoffenheim ran out convincing 4-1 winners. Liked the ground a lot, and we enjoyed the hospitality of a dozen Hanover fans both before and after the game - they insisted we meet them again post match which led to a late night trawl of Hanover's pubs. Sore head on the Sunday...

In terms of quality the Monchengladbach game was the best of all, although the 4-1 score line was harsh on Frankfurt. Borussia supporters particularly those in the Nord Kurve terrace, all 16,000 of them, were very noisy. The inside of the ground was very impressive. Outside the ground is a different kettle of fish though - extremely poor finishing, all concrete and steel, no concourses, no character and in the middle of nowhere. Shuttle buses run supporters back and forwards to the city - wouldn't fancy that every week.

13 goals in 3 games, all in all another fantastic weekend. Looking forward to arranging the next one. When I get time, I'll upload some photos of the different grounds.

Fully in favour of this rule. People will say its a different country but if they start relaxing rules in this case, it wont be long until we have sky and BT showing premiership games live at 3pm and eating into lower league attendances.

I personally can't ever imagine considering going to a lower league game and then rejecting it in favour of watching another game on tele, with the exception of our derby, and that's always a lunchtime kickoff, which I always try (and fail) to get tickets for, and I'd plan that long before looking at a local team.

It doesn't effect the main fans but it does the floating fans. The 3 most popular teams in wrexham are probably man utd, Liverpool and wrexham and we are third on that list. If either of those teams play a big lunchtime game on Saturday or champions league on a Tuesday it definitely eats into our attendances.
