Im quote suprised as by the vibe from all the efest forum that guitar bands are not selling, thats why organisers are booking more pop based acts.

So perhaps its also pop acts aswel, troubling times for fests ticket sales wise.

Hmm maybe, but to weigh up seeing Beyonce or standing in a field all day, I would pick seeing Beyonce. They would also have a better chance of getting nearer the front at V fest compared to her tour.

i think no one apart from The Rolling Stones is hugely popular with everyone. Guitar bands are getting less popular I think, even if you look at R&L they have gone for Eminem and Chase and Status over another guitar band and sub. More pop based acts are were I think music and festivals are moving, maybe in 10 years it will change again back to guitar bands

Eminem headlined before and have had dance acts subbing before.

Yeah a decade ago, so R&L have chosen him again when they could have had the chance to have a guitar band

Im watching highlights from IOW that I recorded now

Your saying there going all pop by booking eminem, what would you of said 10 years ago when it sold out?

Reading will never go the 'pop' route and its always been mainstream bands on the main. The likes if stereophonics, oasis and blur are as mainstream as eminem. If anything there going more rock with soad and NIN subbing.

personally as i've said to someone else, i think R&L has messed up with Eminem. He sold V out in an instant two years ago, he's sold a glasgow show out after heading T 3 years ago, there is no indication R&L is selling his day tickets well. I think R&L is stuck a bit as to where to go as it's the pop stuff that's selling better and V is the domain for it.

I dont think Eminem is pop, but having him instead of a guitar band maybe shows that having 3 guitar bands wouldnt sell as well as what they have at the moment. They havent sold his day massivly well anyway, but he did when he was at V

In a way I think they are going slightly more pop while going more rock aswell, as the NME acts are getting bigger each year, or more in the charts, just take Alt-J and Bastille. However I know R&L will always have these on a lower stage and they will never headline.

Where do you think Mumfords will be next year, V or R&L?

Who ever gives them most money.

Does the cure count as a guitar band? Dont most acts have guitars?

Eminem is pop, at least in the sense of popular. He sold out his day and helped to sell out the weekend of the most pop mainstream festival about. I bet R&L are kicking themselves thinking that was a decent booking as the undercard for that day is shocking and it's £30 extra than his own Glasgow show was.

I wouldnt count Mumfords as a guitar band, I would count them as more pop-folk and if R&L went for them it would just show they arent as rock as they think.

I dont know about the cure though, not too familiar with them

Mumfords play guitars?

Yeah in the sense of popular mainsteam then he is pop, alot more pop than the other headliners and subs. The undercard isnt too good I agree, but its not my taste anyway apart from a few acts on NME and Radio1 xtra stage

The main stage at R&L has gone much more rock-based this year, despite the bottom half of it being almost exclusively shite.

The NME Stage has gone much more pop-based, and now has much less substance than in previous years.

The Lock Up and FR haven't changed too much, except there is now a Rock Stage to replace the Dance Stage day from previous years.

The addition of 3-day dance and grime/hip-hop stages has given them room to introduce more pop without affecting the rest of the lineup too much.

On the whole, R&L hasn't really changed the type of acts they're booking (except seemingly giving up on having a solid middle-order), it's just booked more of everything and therefore ended up with a greater amount of weaker acts.

I think the top bit sums it up, it's gone more rock based and shite, showing exactly the calibur of rock act available for them to have got.

It hasn't changed, just what is the now available to book is bollocks.

If i'm asked what decent rock bands are around at this minute to go on an undecard i'm struggling to find them, indie one's are different but indie has been dieing for a few years. indie is almost essentially the new pop now

Yeah and I thought weekend tickets would have been snapped up, especially with Beyonce and now the full line up being announced. I dont think V could have sold out as quick as they have before even if they had another huge act instead of Kings of Leon ie Coldplay. Glasto only sells out because of the name and the prestige

Ha ha and the fact it's the best festival in the world

comfortably, although Coachella beats anything else over here

Your probably right (can't comment too much as haven't been). Love the comments of Glasto sells out because of the name, no it's got the name because of how amazing it is!

People don't realise until they have been. I was the same. Now I'm a convert

I am now taking back 4 people this year to Glasto while taking another that's 1 1st timer, I have a mate who kinda wishes he was going and it's taken two years try trying to get him to agree to deposit in october but he's had 5 people guarantee to him he'll enjoy it and it'll be quality.

Part of it is the name, but it's the only festival I could go to and not HAVE to watch a band.

The only thing with Coachella is the lack of the comedy but I never really go see it over a band anyway. There is really cool things like water spraying fans around the site so when you're hot they have about 3/4 spinning fans in a row that jet out water and you can take your top of whatever off and just circle your body twice to cover it in water. Powerade is big over there to drink but is not cheap! There is the drinking aspect but it's so hot there that you'd be constantly drinking then water and so on. I managed to stay hydrated by drinking water but I can see how easily drinking alcohol instead could make you feel very drained and fucked.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
