Few years ago me and my mates were sat watching I think it was Black Grape on the Pyramid Stage on a hot afternoon. My mate was sweating like a marine at a spelling test. So popped off to shove his very hairy body under the taps. While he was away this little family group sat next to us and started watching Black Grape, Few minutes later this short bloke in a floppy hat reached over and tapped me on the shoulder and asked if he could sit in the camp chair my hairy friend had vacated. I said "yep no probs but when my mate comes back he will probably turf you out" He said "no problem" I then looked at him closely under the shade of the hat was the one and only John Peel. I was a bit awe struck but calmed down and offered him my Spice Rum and Coke, He accepted and took a big slug, coughed and said "Wow that is strong.......but refreshing" Chatted a few minutes about Glasto, music and bands coming up. Very nice bloke then he introduced his family and they came over and sat closer.

About 15 minutes later my Hairy mate comes stomping through the crowd and shouted " Oy you !! you Fucker get out of my chair, I am fucking knackered couldn't find you in all this crowd !" John Peel turns around and retorted " No problem mate, but you will have to give me a hand not as young as I used to be" My Hairy mate then clocks who he is offers his hand and shook it vigourosly saying to us "It's him !! Isn't it fucking John Fucking Peel !!! " We all burst out laughing and John Peel tells him to shush as he was meant to be over the Other Stage comparing but took a bit of an "afternoon" off ;)

We then watched the rest of the set and my hairy mate kept on looking at us, pointing and mouthing "it's John Peel in my fucking chair ""

Being a Doctor Who fan I was pretty chuffed when I got served a beer by Paul McGann backstage in the bar at Jazz World 2009 but was made up when I saw Matt Smith wandering through Arcadia at about 3am Saturday night 2010. It all got a bit emotional because I'd only just seen the the TARDIS someone had made.

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
