The Best Darn Camera Thread

I use a old lumix compact. If you use the manual modes and in particular the high Iso settings at night then you get fairly respectable results on a compact. Go for the highest optical lens magnification , rechargeable batteries (buy spares off ebay or amazon) , lowest price. Don't take your expensive camera to Glasto unless your seriously into photography

I'll be taking my Panosonic TZ20 which was bought for the 2011 festival and my Nikon D5100, a recent purchase.

I was debating whether or not to take the DSLR, but came to the concluding that there isn't any point buying an expensive camera and not taking it to the best place to take some quality photos.

Besides, DSLRs are well built.

I'll use the DSLR during the day and the low light. It'll go in the lockups once it gets dark and the compact will come out.

Woo I knew had seen a thread around here :D

Right I currently have an Olympus X-44 I brought about 3/4 years ago, but the focus on it...can be a bit shit to say the least! I was thinking about another camera and I've found two I quite look the look/reviews are good for the price point...as I'd wanna take to Glasto...I don't want to spend to much so I was wondering if anyone could advise on getting one of these two:

Canon PowerShot SX150

Panasonic DMC-LZ20 http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5598108.htm#pdpProductReviews

I quite like Panasonic "Bridge" one but it might be worth me just going for a compact for a few happy quick snaps whenever I like? (Might see if its in John Lewis at the weekned so I can feel how bulky it is!)

Or if you have any other suggestions for something half decentish around that price point I am happy to listen! Basically I want a slightly less shit zoom and better focus at night time (I realise from what I read on review sites...cheaper = not so good ;) but something better than a blur of lights hopefully :D)

I take my Panasonic DMC G1. It's a bit old now but like someone else said, I can change most of the settings with my eyes closed. I'll be taking 3 lenses too - telephoto for getting stage shots from the back of the crowd, 'normal' for, well, normal stuff and pancake for low light. I think it's what's called a Bridge camera having changable lenses but not as bulky as a DSLR. These days I don't tend to get as munted as I used to back in the day so I'm fairly sure it'll come to no harm as far as dropping it/getting it wet etc is concerned (I wouldn't have taken such a thing back in 2000, no siree!!). I'll still be using the lockups over night though - can't afford to have it nicked as I'm the photographer at a friend's wedding the weekend after the festival!

I love taking photos at Glastonbury, the site, the people, the scenery is all so photogenic - it's a beautiful part of the world.

I have always taken my DLSR to glastonbury but with all the lenses its simply too heavy... This year ive decided to buy a decent compact.. the Sony RX100... Managed to pic up a sony refurb for £350 from the sony shop reduced from £550... It takes stunning pics.. Larger sensor, f1.8 so excellent in low light and for its size its the best in its class.. 20.2 mp if your into that ;-)

I have a Canon IXUS 100 which came with me in 2010 and 2011 and I've been more than happy with it. They can be picked up for around £80 now via ebay.

I've got some of my photos from those years on flickr if you want an idea of what it's capable of:

At night stick the ISO right up, you'll get more image noise but the pictures should appear appear more in focus. Both cameras have the same max ISO. I'm assuming your out of focus night pictures are due to motion blur and slow shutter speeds

I've recently bought a Canon 550D, which I'll be taking. Not too expensive, but takes some decent photos for a low end SLR.

I don't have any photos from Glastonbury that I have taken with it, so here's a group of otters:

EDIT: Remember, insurance is your friend. And register everything you bring on the police's "immobilise" website. Useful in a crisis.

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
