interesting thread title, as the bands I know as shoegaze are bands like isis, neurosis, red sparowes, etc. although they can also be put under the "post rock" banner too.

but I totally see it applying to the bands on the poster too.

I stumbled upon Slowdive on Spotify a few years ago and within a few days I had bought all 3 of their albums. If you haven't listened to them I highly recommend checking them out. They shit all over My Bloody Valentine.*

They'd be post-rock, or even post-metal if being picky. Shoegaze typically refers to the original late 80s British scene.

I like Swervedriver a lot as well. I thought they were really good on their tour a few years ago.

Out of shoegaze came shitty imitators, and post-rock, which is a different style indebted to shoegaze. I don't think you could really argue that any bands from this century are shoegaze. It was a scene or movement that's no longer present.

Exactly. Same as grunge, or Nu-grunge as they're calling it.

Evolutionarily speaking, Shoegaze became commercial/mainstream/pop. Garbage is one good example, Blur another. The first Blur album is most certainly shoegaze, unlike the rest. Garbage were an extension from the beginning, the first album being very good. Lush were an excellent example of Shoegaze in the early 90s to becoming what was later called brit-pop in the mid to late 90s.

Curve are worth it dude. Lush had a few decent tracks early on too.

Anyone got any good tips for current shoegaze-y bands? I discovered Tamaryn the other day, their latest album "Tender New Signs" is pretty good.

I also love M83, who aren't shoegaze per-se, but there's a definite influence, especially on their "Digital Shades" album.

Been looking forward to this, but not sure when it will be out. Same with 'Just Gimme Indie Rock!', which is another documentary I'm eagerly awaiting.

On the whole post rock discussion, I thought it was more indebted to stuff like Slint and Talk Talk.

My Bloody Valentine touring next year, and supposedly the new album is due out imminently. Desperate to go see them again, but I'm a bit dubious about how likely the new album actually is. Anyone seen anything to really prove it rather than reports on interviews with Shields making vague promises?
