because over ten years ago he stopped trying to force his new music on people which they didn't want to hear (which he HAD been doing for nearly 20 years), and instead gave greatest hits sets.

Heathen is also a good album. But yeah, then you have to go back to Scary Monsters in the early 80s for any real quality. His output has always been patchy though.

I know people hate it - including Bowie, now - but Let's Dance was a great album, even if it wasn't really Bowie.

funnily enough I was in that NY Italian restaurant just two weeks ago (its in Nolita, Soho), and don't worry people, he hasn't lost his mind. I can confirm that their food is worthy of the great David Bowie's tummy. Bloody delicious it was

Anyway, my balls twitch with excitement when I remember this night in Dublin. This week 9 years ago.

that's my point. People (well, some...) are happy for him to just do his older material (I would be too, btw), but The Stones get criticised for only doing old stuff and not releasing anything any good for years..?

I understand that Bowies 'hits' shows are more likely to be better performances, but that's not (always) what The Stones (for example) are knocked for

the reality tour album is one of the greatest things on earth

its of the dublin gig so I guess was the one you were at?

Yeah. There was a huge buzz about the gig anyway as the album had done pretty well. And there were lots of cameras around the place so everyone was thinking "Is he doing the tour DVD here?" When he announced he was after 2-3 songs the place went into 6th gear.

The applause and cheering after Life on Mars had to be edited for the DVD because it went on so long. Still gives me shivers watching it.

He did a good few tunes off Heathen, Earthling, Outside and Reality on that tour and they all went down well. Afraid, Slip Away, Loneliest Guy, Bring Me The Disco King, Never Get Old, New Killer Star, Battle for Britain, The Motel. All excellent and all from albums from the previous 5 years.

Remember he had released Heathen and Reality in the space of 15 months at that point. He was on a roll.

The Darkness stepped up to headline with The Charlatans filling their slot. Good times*.

No, definitely not good times. I got so wasted in the absence of Bowie that I don't even remember who I saw. I know it was NOT The Darkness though.

The best gig in the history of the festival as far as I'm concerned.

Dunno why it was cut.

Maybe he's still mortified by the dreadful little smile he gives the actress in the video after racially mocking her appearance.

A nadir for the man only equalled by the whole "streets of Brahzilll" stuff with Mick.
