Motorhomes/Campervans

Hi All

I'm renting a motorhome for Glastonbury this year. I've never done it before and was wondering if anybody who has can give advice on how long the power would last etc. Just wondering if it would be enough to do breakfast for the week for example.

This is the one we've gotten.

Has anybody got any experience of these and is there anything that motorhome users bring to Glastonbury that you wouldn't otherwise bring?

Thanks for any help and advice you could offer.

Gas should easily last the week to power your fridge and cook. As long as you don't shower all day long! You may want to consider taking a water container to top up your water. As soon as you have a water tank instead of dispensing out of bottles etc, you'll be amazed how much water you use.

Apart from that take what you want with you - you've got plenty of room and don't have to carry it.

You will use very little electric - only for internal lights and to pump the shower - all the rest will be calor, that should last. As long as you're sensibe with the showers you should be fine. To top up the water the ideal thing is an Aquaroll, you may get one supplied with the motorhome.

Most motorhomes have an internal tank so check what you have. We met a couple last year who were struggling to fill the tank, we had a bit of pipe that helped them out but a long neck funnel would have been easier. The water tank filler can be quite high on new motorhomes as they rely on a hosepipe, not manual fill :)

And don't forget the "no glass" rule still applies to camper vans - the people in front of us had two bottles of vodka confiscated. So if you take any hide it out of sight.

We took a hose pipe & filled the water tank under the van when we first got to the site (to save fuel driving down there - took ages as it held over 100 litres).

Check you get a bottle of stuff for the bog & make sure you know how to empty it without spilling the contents everywhere.

Power depends on what leisure batteries there are fitted, Usually there are 2 x 110 batteries, which is loads for Glastonbury. Very little light is used as it is only at night when you arrive back, unless you are like me and wake up with all the lights still on :) - TV's etc are used very little if at all at a Festival. So power wise you should have loads to spare.

1 x 12 or 13 KG gas bottle will also be plenty for Glasto, a 6KG might struggle depending how many of you are in it and how many showers you want, very much doubt you will need the heating, so the only thing that will be heavy on it is the hot water and boiling kettles for the morning brew:)

Went to see the motorhome today which has put my already high excitement levels into another stratosphere. Apart from the aquaroll and the long necked funnel I think it comes with everything I need. The company I'm hiring from seem really nice as well and said we can pick up the motorhome early as long as it's ready.

I don't think officially you are able to run up engines to recharge batteries but I've seen it done fairly often. I've also seen people using portable petrol generators - again something that's not officially condoned.

It's use your common sense about times of day and chat nicely to the stewards.

    • Geese playing for 1:20 instead of just an hour was a lovely surprise. The energy was great!
    • Oh well that's why then, I assumed it was still the same. Thanks!
