I don't get why people are predicting QOTSA to headline. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of them but they haven't done anything since they last played to justify being bumped to headliner.

In fact, are they any bigger now than when they were since Songs For The Deaf came out? Their next album will need to be massive and they'll need a song bigger than No One Knows, which is unlikely to happen now.

Is there any reason nobody's mentioned Metallica? The UK Sonisphere don't have them when many of the Euro ones do, and they're not doing anything else around that time as far as I can see. Maybe this is the reason they're not at Soni UK? I know they played 4 years ago, but for a band as big as them does it matter?

Yep download and they did sonisphere last year as well as four years ago too.

But I did mention them last week sometime, when we were all still struggling, and said how about a Metallica greatest hit set considering they are doing the black album everywhere else this year.

Obviously it wouldn't happen, it was just one of those stupid predictions that everyone seems to have gotten into recently on here.

Here's run down of the main contenders so far (where it refers to sources, information or suggestions it's where Neil has mentioned that he has heard something).

Also worth remembering that only Green Day and The Cure have had R ratings while the others have none, meaning that although Neil may have heard something he doesn't have much confidence in it.

Green Day - small suggestion that they are, however info from a more reliable source suggests that they are doing a UK arena tour in September and history and FR policy suggests that it's unlikely that both will happen so close to each other. The quality of the source suggests that it'll be the tour but nothing confirmed.

The Cure - information that they are doing something in the UK (both from sources and that sodding map), although can't be pinpointed what. At some point R&L seemed to fit the best but there are other possibilities. One of those "if you take out what isn't possible then R&L is still a maybe" rather than having any info specific to R&L.

Linkin Park - some non-specific information that may be referring to Linkin Park, although is questionable as could also point to others that have no chance of playing.

Florence & The Machine - not playing V so is likely to be at R&L, as one of this years biggest touring artists it seems unlikely that she wouldn't do one of the two. Doing European festivals in August so will be touring then. Other possibilities could be headlining Bestival as an exclusive or playing R&L but only subbing.

Bloc Party - Playing European festivals in June and not doing V so free for R&L. Perennial favourites of FR. Nothing to suggest they'll play other than circumstance and nothing to suggest they'd headline other than that they've subbed twice before already. Have ruled out playing on twitter numerous times although they're not going to admit it and they do have a habit of telling porkies (although that's always been to the press rather than fans on twitter).

Neil feel free to tear this apart, it's based on memory so I may have misquoted you.

    • I'm not a Bond fan or anything, just a fella who will happily sit and watch a Bond film - so from that perspective I will say that Brosnan is my favourite, I really love all the ones he has done and can quite happily watch them over and over.   favourite individual film tho is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.   absolutely hate the Dalton ones - I used to think it was just the way he chose to play the character, for some reason he thought Bond should be a thoroughly unlikable person. but actually, Dalton plays this exact same character in every single thing I have ever seem him in... so I think he is either just a properly sh*t actor, or maybe he himself is just a thoroughly unlikable person.   dont really have any interest in any future ones tho... didnt really like the Craig ones.
    • Next year's dates: 3. - 5. June 2027.
    • Fair enough but Im surprised what you say about the acts. I dont see who they could realistically have booked to make it better than the lineup they had.   And Im curious about your cryptic last comment. Locals get in for free?!
    • Non of those three are stadiums bands and Slipknot/Maiden have both been booked for Download more times than any of other headliners, I wouldn't say that trio feels big or expensive, it's a solid realistic trio
