id bought the full tickets back in november, just got thursday and emperors tickets today, all of them have arrived. As long as you've got youre receipt you'll be ok

i said i hoped they would as well, you've got a 50 50 chance of it happening, i know that james and vintage trouble clash on the sunday, that leaves only fri or sat for tribes to headline the calling out. It states on the KC official site they will be headlining, just checked the tribes official site and theyre listed as playing on 28th july which is sat night.

according to efestivals line up, maximo are headlining sat night, according to the kendal press release dizzee rascals headlining sat night ! im sure it'll become clear but it looks as though they will be playing when dizzee's on

WAS did the best stage entrance I've ever seen where all you could hear was deafening motorbikes revving for about 5 minutes then they came on in full face helmets and full white bikers leathers riding tricycles around the stage. Genius.

im sitting here being greedy and hoping for the next announcement soon ! looking forward to seeing a lot more bands this year, the family have been warned !

im still yet to venture in to the dance tents tho and with the rest of the line up looking pretty strong i cant see me strolling in this year either.

The third announcement last year included Hugh Cornwell and Vintage Trouble...so think any further announcements will mainly be new bands...which is good

Crowd capacity increase is music to Kendal Calling ears Tuesday, 10 April 2012

CAPACITY at the Kendal Calling music festival, which takes place at Hackthorpe, near Penrith, is to be increased by 5,000 to almost 20,000.

This year’s festival from 27th to 29th July at Lowther Deer Park will have a maximum of 13,000 ticket holders, along with up to 2,000 staff and artists.

The event is now site-managed by live events company Ear to the Ground, which successfully applied to Eden Council’s licensing committee for a new premises licence which will allow for a capacity of 19,999. The increase is to be phased in over a period of three years.

Councillors were told the aim of the application was to “future proof” the event, which this year is being headlined by Dizzee Rascal, Maximo Park and James.

Kendal Calling was founded by Andy Smith, of Kendal, and Ben Robinson, of Brough. They have now set up a new company, Lakeside Creatives Limited, in which Jon Drape, production director and founder of Ear to the Ground, is a shareholder. The festival, which has taken place at its current home since 2009, is now also organised in partnership with The Warehouse Project, of Manchester.

Mr. Drape, in an address to councillors, said Ear to the Ground was a well- established events management company and he personally had 15 years of experience in the sector.

He had been brought in by the festival organisers following an accident which took place at the site during the setting up phase of the festival in 2010. That accident, which involved a crane driver being electrocuted, is the subject of a multi-million pound damages hearing which is due to take place this summer at London’s Civil Appeal Court.

The current site capacity of 14,999 was granted as a variation to the event’s 2009 premises licence in 2010. “We have no intention of suddenly increasing the capacity. One of its huge draws is that it’s a small festival and has won national awards for being the best small festival in the UK,” said Mr. Drape.

However, in order to improve the quality of services which could be expected at the event, extra revenue was required. In order for that to be achieved this year, the number of ticket holders is to increase from 10,000 to 13,000 and there has been a slight increase in ticket prices.

Licensing officer John Bell said the only change which was being applied for was an increase in capacity. The 3am finish times of the event would remain the same.

An improved traffic management plan is to be put in place following some difficulties experienced on the Friday last year, when the majority of festival-goers arrived. There will also be improved noise regulation following a complaint at Askham which was logged last year.

Chief Inspector Mark Pannone, of Cumbria police, said drug use and misuse was one of the key concerns which the force had about the festival.

However, he said there had been no spill out from the event which had impacted on the surrounding area, either in terms of drugs or disorder.

you'd expect an increase year on year with the ticket price, but i suppose the above story explains how the festival acts seem to have grown and strengthened a bit this year. not sure how the current ground will cope unless the festival space is expanded a bit for the 20000 tickets in a few years. The main stage seemed just about right last year for the crowd

I like the bit about trying to retain the festival as a small festival. I am making my first visit to KC this year, Ive heard plenty of good things so it was on my radar for this year, and my attendance was confirmed when James were confirmed to play!!

I also go to 2 festivals in August/September, Galtres festival (just outside of York) and Bingley. Both were (up until this year) real cheap festivals, but punched above their weight in terms of acts and had enough to be different from your larger festivals but without being any worse an experience. This year both festivals have upped prices and have moved away from what they were about, in fact they are moving into the bracket of fetival that Kendal currently is. Whilst its my selfish view, I don't want them to compete, I want them to stay as they are.

Im sure people feel the same if kendal was suddenly trying to get bigger and compete with some of the bigger festivals, which makes me happy with the statement about retaining the size of the festival, despite a caapacity increase.

Hmmmmmm.....one of the main appeals of the festival for me is the size. An increase in capacity by 5000 may change the small festival feel of the current layout.

It would be interesting to see what layout change will be implemented. Particularly around the main stage.

There will also need to be a significant improvement in campsite toilets!

Bit disappointed in the increase in capacity. A 30% increase in punters is quite a big difference from the original 10k. In the circumstances though can understand why they've done it.

Hoping the size of the site increases accordingly...one of the best things for me was the layout and the ability to be able to go and sit down without a 30 minute hike to find an unoccupied bit of grass.

We'll see come July no doubt!
