Are boxsets a total waste of time though? Does anyone ever really listen to all the stuff on there more than once? Im sorely tempted by the U2 box despite the illogical nature (pair of shades!!!!) and the near €450 price tag.

Thoughts? Fave boxsets? The mega deluxe Bowie Station to Station is a delight.

That U2 box set is one of the most exploitative and cynical things I've ever seen from a major band. £385.99!!

The Dead one is cool though. And as for the Prisoner Cell Block H one, thats the dream!

....and if you're into Floyd bootlegs then there's this recent release The Complete Rainbow Tapes which comes with a poster and replica tour program.

Are the people that splash out on the 450 euro boxset expecting it to increase in value? Is there an overview on which boxsets are considered "valueable" now? Most of them only come down in price as far as I can tell.

This is a recent addition to the collection. Very nice indeed!

Ooh nice! Pre Dark Side live Floyd. Must listen to some of that.

These were the shows where they played Dark Side for the first time a full year before it's release and it's interesting to see how it evolved over time, but being audience recordings the quality isn't great.

I see that on the new Dark Side Boxset due in September that they've included some recordings from The Brighton Dome concert a few months later and being an official release these should be far better :-)

It's not really that exploitative becuase there were fans demanding an uber box set before they had even thought of it. There is a market for it. It is worrying for the the fanboys who cant really afford it but feel like they must have it beacuse they collect everything
