Oh and as for your Gerrard point... yeah he makes a world of difference. He scores goals.

I was really surprised to hear that last night was only his 2nd Prem hat-trick.

Even more surprising was that it was the first hat-trick against Everton at Anfield for (I think it was) 76 years.

Aren't the semis in wembly though, that's big money for everton. It's a gamble but just because a gamble doesn't pay off, doesn't mean its not worth taking. Moyes is a pragmatist and looking beyond the emotions, just unlucky that the game before the cup was local rivals, if he had done it against a team like chelsea away, nobody would even discuss it.

I also think comparing Liverpool and everton number of changes is pointless as it doesn't take into consideration strength of players rested and brought in. Liverpools team just looked a naturally rotated one, while looking at the everton bench it was clearly a weakened team.

everton also play arsenal next Wednesday at home.. out of the 4 games in eleven days I would of probably sacrificed the Liverpool game as well. I don't want to see anichibe playing the wing ever again but the fact that we haven't got a squad capable of sustaining a cup run ontop of the league is kenwrights fault not moyes.

I genuinely don't understand fans who would sacrifice a derby. Except for cup finals, the Sunderland games are the biggest of the season for me. No contest. The psychology of winning or losing one is incredible as well.

I wouldn't be slagging off one of the best owners in the league if Everton were my team.

He might not have pockets that are deep enough to match your dreams of success, but at least he's someone who recognises how important it is not to risk everything on an idea that might not pan out for the best.

And there's plenty of owners who would have been quick to dump Moyes in some of the poorer-performance times, and plenty of good managers who would be quick to dump a club like Everton for just about any other offer from any other club.

Everton for the last ten years might not have been anything like Roman's millions and Moaniho's success, but you want to be careful what you wish for. In Kenwright and Moyes you have a formidible leadership that most other Prem teams would swap for in any instant.

yeah, but for Newc or Sunderland, winning that derby is the best things are ever going to get.

Other clubs have other things they can realistically play for.

I'm saying a modern derby isn't that relevant, the clubs are international brands and the players and fans are not local anymore, I actually work in bradford, 95% of the 30 and 40 year olds are Liverpool fans and 95% of the 20 somethings support man u

I may have moved south years ago but I still care. All the other Toon fans I know wanted nothing more than to finish above Sunderland and win the derbies at the start of the season. Even now there were some saying they'd rather give them a hiding than get a Europe place, although I personally wouldn't go quite that far.

Maybe it's different for the big clubs with more glory supporters and their rivals.

I don't think it's just an isolation thing. A lot of my family are West Brom fans and their passion of the rivalry with Wolves is huge.

Then you get the ones that seem to kick off, I don't know if that's representative of an overall fan rivalry or just to do with the football violence culture, but the couple of people I know who support one of them care a lot about winning the derbies:

Southampton/Portsmouth, West Ham/Millwall, Cardiff/Swansea. Birmingham/Villa.

all clubs that never win anything, so the derby is all they have to live for.

Almost every Evertonian I've spoken to regards it as the biggest game of the season for them by a country mile. Only had to look at twitter or or Everton forums for proof of that. People were getting giddy at the though of being above Liverpool this morning.

    • What is too old for Leeds Fest now ?  I'm going to the Fontaines Saturday in a few weeks at 54 !!!  I may be the oldest there 🙂    Wythenshawe may be an option for WA.
    • Pretty much all festivals lose out on major artists because of production limitations though. Glastonbury is no different to most other festivals.  Lots of acts can/will adapt their tour production to suit festival stages if they want to play them, but some acts with stage designs and routines just don't want to adapt, and would rather just stick with a rigid, well-rehearsed production and take the money for their own gigs, whether that's a lot more than playing Glastonbury, or slightly less than playing some other festivals (but with added complications). Trying to adapt the stage, layout, access to b-stages etc to accommodate a single headliner on a Friday and then having to change it all around for a Saturday headliner isn't really a goer when most headliners can just easily adapt their show to stay on a main stage, if they're so inclined. They have a year to figure out how to perform a song on a main stage and ditch a few dance routines out on a b-stage if they really put their mind to it. It's not that difficult......
    • I would be all over Wolf Alice but may have outgrown this venue.    Also have to consider the schedule they have been on this year so may be on a break.  This last 10 days alone they did Tramlines, New York, Chicago and Kendal Calling.  Although make hay while the sun shines may come into play.
