Mud-monsters

Only saw one mud monster this year.. a very starey-eyed chap in the dance area on Saturday night. Bizarrely carrying a suitcase.

In 2005/07/09 they were a very common sight; I remember every time I walked past one thinking "don't hug me don't hug me don't hug me"... And although towards the end of this year it did dry up (as in 2009) there was still plenty of mud around for anyone fancying a nice dive into it. Not many takers though.

Wonder why that was - anyone have any conflicting observations?

This was something I noticed also.

"Thank feck for that", thought I, "no idiotic 'look at me' types trying to get their photo taken in the least original manner known to man".

To be fair, everyone looked so sullen on Friday that any thoughts of playing in the mud were clearly over-ridden by thoughts of how long it is going to take to get to john peel, etc...

Almost without exception I saw mud up to the occasional knee and no further, which was nice, mud stopped being funny officially in 1998, at every point then it has just been a pain in the arse.

I saw some idiot up at the stone circle showing off in the mud. Wasn't in the least bit funny until he did a spectacular swallow dive on to what he thought was nice soft mud but only succeeded in using his face to come to an abrupt halt!

However hard he tried to hide the pain you could see somewhat satisfyingly just how much it hurt!! :-)

    • Annie Lennox could be the one to unite the whole forum, nobody has a bad word to say about her, even noted curmudgeon Skip 😄 I'd probably even amble along for a bit meself, and i'm also a miserable sod
    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27, or that's what I've been told. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
