Yes I know, I was going back then, my point is that you can't judge a festival by whether it sells out or not and how quickly it does.

It depends what you're judging.

A festival that doesn't sell out but which is set-up financially on the basis of selling out can be judged to not have a future.

40% is 40% whether its one venue or 2....its a percentage! duh!....so that makes your above quote sound worse than just saying Reading still has 40% of tickets left. Think about it!!!

Bit precious there,

Of course its impressive , not saying it isn't. Just that we all can always improve and learn from mistakes. It's not my job to say how and why but I'm a regular paying punter and I have to right to comment on the product / experience I'm buying .

Christ, you would think I had kicked your baby

If someone who had never been to Glastonbury read this very forum afterwards the amount of moaning that is going on it wouldn't be a shock if they came to the conclusion it's shit. Which of course it isn't. Then again neither is Reading, until last couple of years imo their line ups were always superior to the other English festivals.

Everyone seems to think it's the best festival in the UK? It's one of the most well known, but far from the best... it used to be a crusty festival which is when it was probably the best... Reading shits all over it.. always has in my opinion.

Reading has been around as long as Glastonbury and without all the bullshit..

Very true when you start looking at things like financial viability, but the general point of 'festval A must be better than festival B because it sold out' has more holes than Swiss cheese.

There must be plenty of reasons why many people think Glastonbury is better than Reading, but that argument isn't exactly conclusive proof and is a bit lighweight and short-sighted.

Most, if not all, of the other big UK festivals seem to focus on the lineup on the main stages - clearly this is what gets the punters in. As my musical tastes don't seem to stray too far into chart band territory this does not appeal to me. Glastonbury in the only big festival with Leftfield, F of A, Greenfields, Spoken Word et al and I'm happy to pay big festy prices for the ability to wander round these alternative attractions; the smaller festivals will only have one or two stages so not much choice. If what you want is U2, Pulp and Radiohead then I would have thought there is not much to distinguish Reading, IoW and Glastonbury.

Latitude has been described to me as "for Radio 4 listeners" and that by somebody who goes every year, so a shade too sedate for me.

To go back to your original point, why is your rep overdrawn, could be because you have come on a Glasto forum, where most people would be generally pro-Glasto and proceded to criticise it (which is fair enough if you dont like it) in a confrontational, and non productive manner ie. Glastos f**kin shit man, Readings way better, why does everyone hate me......dicuss.

It is a bit like being an Arsenal fan and slagging of Man U on a Man U fans forum (sorry if that point ha already been made but its a good analogy)

Why is your rep so bad? as they say in the States....do the Math.

Personally I think festival tribalism is about as ridiculous as it gets, isnt there enough of that shit in the world already? You dont like Glasto but like Reading....great really pleased for you but I'm hardly likely lose sleep over it.

PS.. I think your rep is now even lower than when you first kicked this off

I'd be amazed if any festival is set up on the basis of selling out, that would be a dangerous business strategy that's only really adopted by lunatics that run football clubs. I'd imagine that Glastonbury has a lower profit margin that those run by companies due to the fact that they aren't as set on making profit so festivals like R&L or V are probably better equipped to get by on a year or two of lean sales, although it's obviously not an ideal situation for long-term success (especially if they've overstretched during the good times).

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
