I would say Sigur Ros could headline the Other Stage. Their annouuncement of an exclusive at Bestival is one of the biggest bookings of the summer.

On the basis that they subbed in 2003 (or whenever it was, 2002 perhaps?) and they're defo not bigger now than they were then I'd say they're something less than Other Stage headliner.

The types who have mobbed that stage for the likes of Jessie J, La Roux, and screeching Flo in recent years wouldn't have a clue who Sigur Ros are.

Going to see how well their album goes down (no doubt, fantastically), before seeing if they could do what.

I do agree with eFests about their popularity and stuff, pretty big following, but probably not enough for headlining that Glasto stage. Quite a weird one, they could have headlined Bestival easy, and after looking; Bestival headliners are usually the size of an Other stage headliner. Except, Stevie Wonder, New Order, etc.

Either way, they could play anywhere really, if I can get a Glasto ticket and Sigur Ros show up though. single tear. 4313_8928.gif

Thanks for that, I meant in terms of the style of music. West Holts headliners seem to be more R&B/soul-based with Cee-Lo, Big Boi and Kool & The Gang headlining last year.

True, but are Sigur Ros any smaller than The Flaming Lips? I'd say they must both be around the same size.

Sigur Ros are hugely smaller than Flaming Lips.

FL are a band that most people are aware of, because they get daytime radio play and have had hits. You can't get more radio-unfriendly than SR.

It's a hard one to judge because they seem too small to headline Other, but too big to headline JP and if they sub Other, it will be light for most of their set - I think they'd work better in the complete dark on an outdoor stage.

I would disagree. How many big hits do The Flaming Lips have? Do You Realize being the obvious one, perhaps She Don't Use Jelly and Race For The Prize at a push but they don't actually have that many songs that the casual listener would know. Perhaps Sigur Ros aren't as big as The Flaming Lips but I don't think there's much difference in size.

Oh, I'm not trying to claim that FL have loads of hits, but they have some - which is more than SR have. But those hits cause FL to be much more widely known than SR are.

    • When are  the stage splits ??
    • 13th Primavera (Thursday was definitely making me feel like this was the cursed year).  Blood Orange was such a party by the end of their set but we all knew that rain storm was approaching.  So gutted Massive Attack didn't play after the false hope of a new rescheduling, especially knowing that Elizabeth Fraser & Horace Andy were backstage with them!  Managed a bit of Melt Banana but was just so over the weather by that point.   Friday was awesome, Rilo Kiley were so much fun.  Never been the biggest Cure fan but made the effort for them after Thursday & Robert Smith sounds like he did back in the 80s.  PinkPantheress & Viagra Boys were also great.   The highlight for me was Sudan Archives on the Saturday, she was stunning & with the Olivia Rodrigo surprise set too it made up for the Thursday sh*t show.  Dijon & Knocked Loose also superb.   Shoutout to Cardiacs on the Tuesday too, they were so LOUD, played a storming set.
    • OK, never mind, I'll take normal Nine Inch Nails.
    • Probably my least favourite of the five editions I've been to, but still plenty good enough for me to go again. Weirdly, I was just totally running out of stamina a lot earlier into the night than I remember happening in the past. I feel like I missed a lot of the weirder sets on the smaller stages as I was just totally cooked. Not Primavera's fault, obviously. Maybe I'm just getting old - or maybe I need to pace my drinking better...   Anyway - is David Byrne a realistic get for next year? Certainly hoping so.
    • watching clips of the cure in Barcelona, wow 2 hours 25 minute set. That's gonna be tough on the Sunday but can't bloody wait for it
