Next 'New' R+L Headliner?

I was on the Reading forums and I came across a thread that was about the next new headliner for R+L. I hope daveportivo doesn't mind but I'm gonna show you the article.

Assuming the next new headliner will appear in 2012 the usual suspects are always QOTSA, Bloc Party, Kasabian and Biffy. Maybe SOAD depending on if they release anything. Absolutely not Mumford & Sons.

Looking further into the future maybe White Lies, The National or even The Joy Formidable (after another two or three albums).

I can't see Pendulum ever headlining a major fest imo, they just suffer from Prodigy syndrome where they are massively over exposed at the fests.

Avoiding what everyone else has said I could see (under the right circumstances) Bullet For My Valentine, Gaslight Anthem, Kaiser Chiefs, Nine Inch Nails, Elbow, Dizzee Rascal & Libertines headline one day.

The Joy Formidable?! Really?! I'm a massive fan, but I think it would take a lot more than that. Maybe if their debut had gone massive, but I can't see it.

Am curious as to what those circumstances are, as my thoughts are:

Bullet For My Valentine will almost definitely headline Download at some point in the near future - but Reading, I'm struggling to see how they'll ever get that mainstream appeal.

Bloc Party are certainly a possibility but I'm really not sure why so many people seem to think it a given that they'll be absolutely massive (and actually all that good) with their comeback.

BFMV have sold out Alexandra Palace, and arenas, so the demand is definitely there. BFMV are a band that most of the R+L crowd will have seen progress through their youth, and they've got sufficient mainstream crossover appeal to appease both sets of fans.

I genuinely don't know if I'm right, but do Bullet For My Valentine hold that much mainstream appeal? The reason I don't know is that I don't consume much mass media, so am not always aware of how much exposure bands get in them, but I didn't think they recieved that much. MCR are considered a risky headliner, and rightly so, but they've had quite a few songs that have recieved heavy play on Radio 1 and a lot of favourable press in NME. In addition, MCR have played fairly high up the bill in previous years (3rd I think?) whereas Bullet For My Valentine only seem to have sub-headlined the NME stage.

if memory serves me right they didnt have that big a crowd when they sub-headlined the NME.can't see them headlining reading,download i suppose is a possibility.

Simple facts are, R+L needs heavier headliners that appeals to its crowd/demographic, and there's very few of them around, let alone coming through. Who's up there as a coming through, heavier rock band that could headline soon? Avenged maybe? The only ones I can think of. I personally think that Kasabian are dead certain for it. Biffy or Bloc Party could headline possibly 2013 when they've released new material.

I'd be surprised if slipknot haven't been considered as a potential headliner... 3 platinum albums, big live shows, right demographic (not so much now perhaps) etc.

Hopefully this tour goes well and they'll release something.

I certainly wouldn't complain. Neither would i if they subbed though.

Soad/slipknot combo would be cool.
