Carrying peoples gear into the site could be a good earner.

I recently went to FOMfest near Manchester. There was a gazebo hiring out "Festibarrows" at £10 an hour. That wasn't even to move things for you, it was just to hire the barrow for you to push yourself. Loads of people were using them and the site was tiny in comparrison. It was only a few hundred yards from the car park to the camping field. After people have already queued for a number of hours in the scorching sunshine to get in they may be glad to make use of your services.

I guess most people won't want to hand cash over to some random person but with 120,000+ going it only needs a very small percentage to take you up. I wouldn't do it outside though or you might end up in the three hour queue for a few quid. Catch them as they come through the gate and you can get the punters sorted quicker and get back for another customer. They'll also be more tired and desperate after the long queue

Hi sorry to hear your news, again I would suggest flogging anything you can part with on eBay, preloved, boot sales.

I have a pop up one man tent that's never been used and I also have a spare seat in my car if u need a lift. I'm in derbyshire, let me know if that's any good to you. Good luck

One of the cheapest places I found to eat last year was in the permaculture area of the greenfields. Don't know if it had a name. I didn't notice much variety there but the prices were incredibly low and the portions large.

Greenfields are great for low cost/good quality/decent portion food.

Once you've made good friends with your neighbours and they've casually become aware of your predicament you might be able to offer to "tentsit" and watch over their gear for a while if say, they bring you back a burger or some beer etc.

Naturally you also want to see much of the festival yourself so you can't do this all the time.

I don't know your preferences but if you aren't interested in the very late night stuff like shangri-la that might be an ideal time to ward off the ner-do-wells.

In Manchester - have a sleeping bag, chair and sundry camping bits you can have for nowt if your nearby.

On Site, I am sure I have seen stalls ( other than buddhacafe) offering free food for some labour - washing up or basic prep. Worth asking round on Wed before it gets v busy. A couple of hours walking round the stalls asking might reap rewards..

If you can lay your hands on a wheel barrow or sack truck I really think you could earn a good few quid on the Wednesday / Thursday as a sherpa. Position yourself just inside the gate and at £10 a go there'll be loads of takers.

And hope for extreme weather (either v hot or v wet!) as that will heighten enthusiasm for a helping hand!

Good call. Mr P&aP had a huge plate of veggie curry with rice there for £3. The veggie pakoras are about a quid. I paid £1 for a piece of chocolate cake that could have fed three people. And they also pay in food for washing up work. Don't forget the 50p tea tent is nearby too.

How about offering to erect people's tents for them. I'm sure people would be happy to part with a few quid to get rid of that hassle - particularly in the family camping areas where they're likely to have kids who are pissed off after waiting for hours to get onto the site.

I just sold a load of crap on eBay (they literally finished a few hours ago) to fund my glasto and got £164. I've since found a few more bits that im going to put up too!

My advice is sell anything you have that you genuinely can do without - i have all my music on my ipod and backed up on a harddrive so selling the CD's wasnt too bad..

do you have transport booked?

I'm doing glastonbury on a pretty low budget this year but i have already booked my travel etc. so its just food and booze for the duration... the hare krishna's do free food, and lots of things are cheap to eat you just have to hunt around...

if you need any stuff to take with you try freecycle etc. you might get lucky!

Hey, Glastonbury for me last year was a complete squeeze! Had no job, very little money, and everything was a COMPLETE nightmare at home .... But I did it. Took a lot of my own food, had ZERO booze, or other stuff , seriously! And just had the best time!

It can be done. But don't sit back and rely on others, you need to get yourself sorted before you leave home. Kind Folk here will offer to buy you a meal, or a beer, but actually meeting up with them will probably never happen. But only because we all get swept up in the Festival, not in a malicious way.

You'll be surprised at how much loose change you have rattling around. I did this last year and had over £10. It sounds ridiculous now, but when you're at rock bottom it feels like a million!

Ooh, I know you've said you couldn't find work, but have you tried emergency temping/contracting? We often get folk into our warehouse with a days notice, and they get paid per day. It may be worth looking into?

Do you live near a university? I received an email today offering £50 for participation in some psychiatry research that only involved an hour and a half structural MRI brain scan (completely safe, unless your body contains lots of metal in which case steer clear!l). Usually psychology/psychiatry departments are crying out for participants. I've made £150 in a week before!

Hello you lovely people,

it's just under 3 weeks away until Glastonbury's gates open and I'm in a right pickle.

I lost my job 2 weeks ago and was praying that I'd find another pretty quickly (which I didn't).

I have no savings at all and I'm absolutely skint, I have no money what so ever to go to Glastonbury with nevermind all of the things I need to buy before setting off to Somerset. I was hoping that you fantastic people could possibly give me some advice on how I can do Glastonbury with no money or ways that i can get money quickly I've racked me brain and I'm no closer to finding a solution.

I wasn't expecting such a response thank you very very much for the advice, such amazing people

I'm based in Liverpool we've already sorted travel but it still needs to be paid for at £60 so at the minute that's a massive chunk of the budget.

I've already got a tent & sleeping bag although the tent does need a new ground sheet for the inside and some new tent pegs but that shouldn't cost anymore than a tenner. To the people that have offered to loan / give me a tent / camping equipment thank you so much what an unbelievable gesture.

There's no way I'm going without any booze, I'm going to try my hardest to get my mum to take advantage of Tesco's offer they have at the moment 3 cases for £20 when she goes for her shopping in the next couple of days and that's booze sorted. Her cupboards will be well and truly raided but whether I'll be able to get my mits on 5 days worth of grub I dunno so I will definitely take advantage of the free food from The Hare Krishna's and the food stalls that offer food for an hours work.

I don't really have any CD's all of my CD's have been sold / lost / broken over the years and like a lot of people my music collection is mostly digital. I have just put up a listing on eBay for a selection of Drum and Bass records though and I've been rummaging through all sorts of junk all day that I can sell so there will be more stuff put up on eBay in the next couple of days. So hopefully I should be able to raise a few quid from there. I'm rallying round all of my friends to see if any of them have any old mobiles / other useless junk that they don't need / want that can get flogged to raise a bit of cash. I haven't got any transport so the white goods idea is out of the question unfortunately.

I would never consider getting a payday loan, I wouldn't have the means to pay it back if I still couldn't find a job after the festival so it could become one of the worst decisions of my life destroying my credit score.

The Laughing Gas idea is a great idea, but I don't really know the legalities of it but if it was legal £1 a balloon 100 balloons £100 that would be enough to last me the weekend definitely without breaking my back as a sherpa carting things around the site for people. Although if I find out it is illegal then I'll definitely be waiting inside the gate Wednesday / Thursday morning with a sign so if anyone would like my assistance I'll be inside one of the gates. Depending on where you want to go from certain gates there will be different charges. Gate A to Pennards for example will cost 20 quid, but Gate D to Dairy would only cost a tenner, also if you'd like a helping hand putting up your tent that will be an extra fiver, always remember that top pocket is always open for tips as well so whilst i'm carrying your luggage you can slot an extra few quid in there for my excellent service.

I have thought about becoming a rent boy not to make any money or anything just for the fun of it. It could be a good money maker though.

I'm hoping that I might be able to get a couple of shifts work for a stewarding company, stewarding at a couple of low key events around Liverpool cash in hand to raise a bit of money too. Fingers crossed.
