Exactly. In '99 I was utterly buggered by 10pm on the saturday and have vowed to never let that happen again, so rest stop/nap/shower has become part of my afternoon routine, unless there isn't a gap in the music that I can find (there was last year Saturday & Sunday and there will be again this year, so I'm sorted, Friday I'll just have to man up and push on through as it just act after act that I NEED to see :)

I'm determined to see more late night stuff this year (my latest night last year was about 3am at mandala and I never enjoyed the real craziness at all) and last night I had a test drive of some magic stay awake beans that should assist with that :)

Way too much berocca for me to hit that target but then i wasnt dehydrated at all last year, drank plenty of water along with rum and a wedge of lime... gorgeous! - gonna give that nap thing a go this year however, i found i couldnt do as much of the late night stuff as i wanted last year due to the heat just making me need to sleep more!

mmmm...sailor jerrys and ginger beer, interesting.

Fill a 500ml bottle halfway with sailor jerrys, fill it nearly to the top with orange juice, add a tablespoon of honey, shake. With no other mixer in '09 we discovered this, it is the taste of summer for me now :)

Litre cartons of ice cold OJ can be purchased for a very reasonable price from the milk bars/milk tractors. It sells out quite quickly in the mornings from the tractors though and if you were at shangri la til dawn and don't surface til early afternoon you will be out of luck and have to purchase the more expensive option from the 24 hour shops

My missus got a mild dose of sunstroke on the friday last year, having been out in it all afternoon, we then stood for all of Snoops set, during the exodus after he finished she started to feel a bit faint, so we had to go sit down for a while before slowly going back to the tent for an evening snooze. She was back up and ready to go by about 10 o clock though, and we stayed up til well past sunrise!!

The main danger for dehydration at Glastonbury isn't not drinking enough, it's from over-drinking without restocking on salts, as then water won't be retained. This is especially a problem when taking party chemicals, as you're less likely to feel inclined to eat, and therefore replenish the salts that you are sweating out of you.

Having occasional rehydrating sports drinks to replace electrolytes is a good idea, as well as eating regularly (if you can).

Rehydration salts such as Dioralyte can also be used, but only if absolutely necessary

last year was great for me , but others i was with it was just to much, i have spent most of my working life outdoors in all weathers so probably more aclimed to it rather than some whos working enviroment is indoors and air conditioned. Some points to remember if it is like last year, use plenty of protection cream and after sun is very important, dehydration is your enemy drink plenty of water, not juice or coke etc heat and fizzy/ pure juice can give you upset tummys. alcohol cause's dehydration so drink plenty of water, i drink my share of alcohol but use this rule - drink water when hot or thirsty alcohol at all other times, a good old army tip get a cheep stainless steel flask and late at night or early in the morning chill it inside under a tap and fill seal tight and use as a cold supply when hot at stages in heat of day. also wear a hat better if straw or vented. STAY SAFE STAY HYDRATED

I know I wasnt on form at the Cider Bus Meet last year. Major banging headache, not even an inch of cider past my lips for an hour at one point. Then I remembered...I hadnt eaten since 11am. The footy and the meet had taken my attention away. Once I had nommed on a filled yorkie I was right as rain and on the H&S by 10pm!

I did just have to smile when a weather report on the local radio stated heatwave that will last over 3 weeks with temperatures of 33' by then B)

My tips are DO NOT buy water from the ice-cream vans. Far too over priced!! Cost us £2 for 500 ml bottle!! Instead pay £1.50 for a 2 litre bottle of the Gladtonbury spring water!!

Also last year we took some of that magicool(?) spray cooling thing in an aerosol that you spray on your face to cool down

Finally protect your neck. It's all good and well wearing a hat but make sure your neck is also shaded from the sun as red neck hurts!!!!!!

Great news!!

Last year was my fav Glasto out of my last 10. Only slept about 5 hours the whole weekend because of the sun, and not taking a gazebo (we thought they would be taken down!) but I had a cracking time drinking tequila slammers in the blazing morning sun!

This year we shall be taking plenty space blankets and a gazebo!

I'll say this quietly but last year was just tooooo hot! Just a couple of degrees cooler and maybe the odd passing cloud would make it perfect! I remember one of the loudest cheers of the day last year was for a cloud that provided a brief respite!

Having said that, if it's the same again this year we'll all be better prepared, a bit like making sure you have all the wet weather equipment you could ever need in the year following a wet one!

Anyway, if I were to give one bit of advice it would be this, wear suncream.......

I'm glad to see I'm not the only 1 that struggled last year, put simply it was horrible during the mid day.

i tried the space blankets thing last year and it simply didnt work at all. I wouldnt recommend it. The theory seems sound but ultimately it didnt really decrease the temperature in the tent to bearable levels.

I'd prefer cooler than last year ideally, sleeping past about 8.30am would be nice..... <_< just got too hot after that!

Ha,

Don't know if this is a good or bad omen.

The other factor is that it has been pretty dry for the last 6 weeks or so throughout most of England and the rain has to fall at some point.

Clearly, even with 28 dry, scorching, days in June, two wet ones during the festival will not make us feel too good.

Just wait and see.

Last year it got a bit too much at points, I think 2009 weather would be perfect. I really want to risk not taking wellies because they're a bit heavy but it's clear that if I don't bring them Glasto will be Atlantis by Friday...

    • Ok, ok, I have done it! Not because of limitless upvoats but to support the Efestivals site.
    • She was/is 100% in the mix, but I don't know specific timings and how it relates to that interview. They've clearly gone after her, again.   It could be read in a number of ways - she was in negotiations at that point, she was talking about BST (and he's interpreted it, as we have, as Glastonbury). Who knows
    • So sad to see the news that John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras has died. They only released their latest album last week and it is wonderful.  So underrated and a member of such a great long running band that have meant so much to me over the last 40 years. https://trashcansinatras.com/blogs/news/john-douglas-1963-2026
    • listening to jamie east's podcast earlier he said that he'd heard fender is confirmed, and that as of 2 weeks ago Madonna hadn't been approached.
    • which would make that Graham Norton interview nonsense .... although obviously things change
