R.I.P The Strokes

Bit different though isn't it? That was AF's big chance. You only get one of them. Headlining a second stage at a commercial gig, to a crowd of about 10,000 is not going to mean much when they're already booked to play the biggest festivals across Europe.

Maybe they could print their level of excitement on the tickets so you knew whether you were wasting your money and time going to see them?

e.g. Big gig in London - excitement level 7 out of 10 (I reckon that's as excited as they get, anyway)

Intimate club gig trying out new stuff - excitement level 3 (THEY'VE heard it before so it isn't very exciting, is it?!)

Radio 1 Big Weekend, oop North - excitement level 1 (which means "we can't be arsed and couldn't give a toss about any of the people coming to see us").

Sorry, I'm clearly being sarcastic but trying to defend a band for turning up and being knowingly sh*te because they're more excited about a different gig seems bizarre to me. If I (openly - something you are praising them for) couldn't be arsed to teach properly on some days but was really good on other days I would be out of a job. And I don't get paid thousands an hour.

I really hope The Strokes ARE the special guests on the Saturday - it means there's no reason to miss a single moment of Elbow - incidentally, a band that doesn't know how to just "dial in" atrocious performances like The Strokes. They've laboured their one song for too long now, anyway.

To be honest, all the excuses about the strokes being shit yesterday are a moot point.

If they had a bad day, so be it, I reckon it happens to most bands from time to time. Saying they obviously couldn't be bothered is just guessing. There's no proof so why argue it out?!

If you like their music, and I largely do, you will forego getting a perfect spot at the pyramid stages for the run-up to the headliners, for the chance that they might play the secret slot at the park Fri or Sat.

Would love to see them live!

I was there, they look bored. No connection with the crowd, vicious circle as the crowd leave to see Gaga who clearly did care.

Compare with Magnetic Man before them, passion, energy, enthusiasm and even a comparable crowd.

Have to say they probably will be better headlining festivals when the singalong takes place.

All-in-all disappointed for what would be the highlight of the day. 4/10 and this from something I shouldn't be able to complain about as the tickets were free.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
    • Rotten communication. Actually god awful. Posting sporadically on IG, closing Mordor only to reopen and cause some serious carnage. Left the festival as it got too much for my 16year old daughter. She was devastated about Alex G and Mac…but TV girl could have saved it. Took us until 1220 and already home to find out they might/are playing. Pish.    and on another note, this festival has lost its bastard soul. Gone are the wee tents with local sellers selling vinyl, t shirts etc, now you can buy a 50 f**king eur official T-shirt. The ar*e is truely out of this event now. I went to Porto for the first time last year and it was fab. I love Barcelona and the line up is always stacked, but this festival is a corporate loss take. Hopefully a better day tomorrow.
