Lockups, advice

Hi,

I'm on a photography course at the moment and was thinking of taking my kit to Glastonbury to take some shots over the weekend. It's not stupidly valuable but I'd be gutted if it went missing, and if anything will it's and SLR and a big lens. My question is how secure are the lockups? I may want to leave my kit in them overnight, whilst I enjoy my nighttime shenanigans.

We discussed this in another thread, and as far as this board knows, there has never been a loss from the security lockups. So we'd all trust them completely.

They are not lockers as such - each "lockup" is a large tent containing shelves, which is manned all day and all night. You check stuff in, using your ticket as ID, and you get a receipt for checking it back out.

It's worth noting that your insurance probably won't cover your kit while it's in the lockup -- but if you assume it's safe in there (as I would), and it's insured while it's with you, you can be confident that it's OK to bring your SLR.

I had my equipment in there last year, each time I checked the bag in I just requested it go on the top shelf Felt 100% sure in the safety of it.

Not only do you get a receipt for leaving your items they also ask name, phone number and (possibly address?) so in case you either loose your receipt and/or someone tries to claim your stuff they can't. We used it last year to store our 'night' clothes in i.e. warm clothing

I can't recommend them highly enough well worth using. People say it is a locker it is in fact a huge marquee with loads of shelves on so plenty of room to store camera and bits

the lock ups are SUPERB and imo safe!

Be extra nice to the peeps that run them as they do a great job and are very meiculous... and done forget to shove some non-bronze coins in the collection!

I checked in everything of value in a rucksack on the Wednesday evening last year, stopping in Friday afternoon to restock cash, booze, fags and specialist tobacco products, then collected the bag and the last of it Sunday morning.

I was with a friend who was at his first glastonbury when we headed off to the lockups, he didn't want to come with us as he wanted to go back to his tent for a rest stop. He lost all his money to a tent thief Wednesday night.

As much as you want. I stick the trolley in there, there's always a bike or two and other trolleys as well as bags of different sizes and an envelope system for small stuff likes keys.

I work in the lock ups, and can assure you that it's the safest place to store your stuff.

Theres no limits to what you can put in, we give out toilet roll (which no one seems to know!) and it's manned 24 hours a day.

Staff are generally pretty savvy and the ground is used for trollies, bikes etc - small bags are kept as high as possible.

I'd highly recommend people put in keys (ie house, car keys), mobiles, ipods and money - I can't tell you the number of horror stories I've heard over the past few years( not just theft, but loss) that could have been avoided if they'd used the lock ups.

I stick my entire life in the lock ups - wallet, car keys, house keys, most of my cash (only keep what I need on me), iPod etc. with no probs. Posted in the /index.php?showtopic=159860&view=findpost&p=3577700">Top Tip Thread as well, but I recommend sticking stuff in dry bags - brightly coloured so easy to find, and guaranteed to keep the damp / wet away regardless what the weather brings.

I check myself into the lockups and only check myself out when it looks safe outside.

anything I take of value goes in the lockups. I've taken over a grands worth of camera kit in the past. and left it with no probs or worries.

Can anyone tell me where the nearest lock up is to the tipi field? We've always camped at hitch hill and used the lock up at the pyramid or last year at lulu's cafe, but we've splashed out on a tipi this year!

if your in the tipi field next to the park then there was one about 200 meters past the entrance to the park last year.

Anybody, particularly rottencrotch, know when the lockups open and close - ie. are they open in the days leading up to the festival (I suspect not), or just the period of the festival itself?

If I remember correctly, the Lock-Ups are open 24hrs a day from when the gates open on Wednesday morning until 12 noon on the Monday - and a fabby service they do too - can't stress enough, if you are putting your valuables in there please give a donation to the charity box/tin at the counter of the lock up.

Yep, 24 hours from gates open on Weds. All the stuff that isn't collected on Monday by midday gets shipped to the main lock up (near the farmhouse I think?.
