See tickets disgrace

I was in a bit of a fix with See too this week.

I got my tickets off from the Sunday resale, and used my credit card since I'm not local (and as per stated in their own terms on the ticket info page).

Monday night got an e-mail telling me my card didn't come through with a link to try recharge my card. Tried the link and the system gave me an error saying I needed a debit card.

Rang up See the next morning, the customer service rep didn't seem to know what to do about it but acknowledged it wasn't my fault as I didn't have a local debit card. She told me to drop a mail instead, which I did.

Following day had a rep call me up and process the payment over the phone instead, and just checked with my bank that my card has been charged.

Point is, in the first e-mail telling about how transactions didn't come through, they said they'd hold the tickets for a week (until Tuesday midday 26th) and not to worry, get your payment sorted. Your friend should've at least gotten that weeks' period after telling her that payment couldn't come through.

The way I've always understood it to be that it's not See's decision not to accept Credit Cards but Michael Eavis's as he doesn't want the Banks making money off the festival?.. Which is fair enough, tbh.

So, if they're not spending much of that money on servers/bandwidth, what are they spending that money on? Printing the tickets? Well how much does it cost to print a ticket? Not much per ticket, when you consider the volumes they're printing. How much does it cost to print a high security banknote? About 5 pence. Even if it costs SEE tickets 50p a ticket, that's still only a small proportion of £670,000. Even if we printed them all using an HP inkjet printer, it wouldn't cost us anything like that much.

Perhaps they are spending the money putting the tickets in enevelopes? All that is required in to rent a mailing centre for 1 week. I would be surprised if this cost them as much as 10p per ticket. Consider how many bills the banks, utility companys etc send out every month. Consider how incredibly efficient this process should be.

When SEE tickets claim they are barely breaking-even, perhaps they are including the beer money they're spending at Glastonbury?

I thought the no credit card rule was to help stop touting as you have to have the cash and can't just load a credit card that could have a 10k limit enabling touts to buy hundreds of tickets

A few musings and tips:

1/ If making any unusual payment off any card especially debit ring the bank beforehand to clear the payment. This will prevent issues with security.

2/ Check within 48 hours that payment has been taken or requested at the very least.

3/ Check that no other payments are due within the same 48 hour period as direct debits will take precedence. You may have funds at the time of the payment but these may have lowered by the time the actual payment is requested.

4/ Seetickets are the best of the bunch if you read the reviews with a higher level of security than most. It means that you have more of a chance getting the ticket you paid for.

5/Seetickets are a business not a charity ( nor is Glastonbury although it does provide money for good causes) and therefore will make a profit....keeping people in jobs etc.

6/ To the lass without a ticket....just ring them up. If you have the details then they operate to the same business rules as any other decent company. I have dealt with them and they are human....and actually do take a pride in trying to help their clients as they would not wish that much adverse press. The Glastonbury contract is worth a few pennies to them and they would hate to lose it. You are not the first or last that this has happened to and there are tickets for this purpose....including the one in your name within the system.

All very preachy....sorry...but unfortunatly it is a world I am familiar with.

If See tickets are not making a profit on £670,000 revenue, then they are incompetant, and deserve to go bust.

A guy we know works for metropolis (events company) in the ticketing department and has direct correspondance with the main see tickets/glasto bod and was able to forward her case directly and with a wink and a nudge get it sorted.

thanks everyone for taking the time to give some very useful info! we pursued a lot of the advice but just got lucky in the end!
