I still cannot believe that the sales have been so slow, but I have to say that economic climate or not, it all came down to the lineup for me. 10 years of the monday night scramble came to an end on the day of that poster leak, and yesterday out of curiosity I looked on ebay and watched a pair go for £300, which I feel is a much more reasonable amount!

What a fantastic move by ticketline. Although I'm sure it was motivated more by trying to get more tickets sold (and therefore more booking fees in the bank) rather than out of genuine concern for broke festival-goers it's good to see someone using their initiative and doing something that helps people out a bit. I think I'll try and get all my tickets from them in the future, they deserve my booking fee more than see or ticketmaster.

Well I think it's a good move, £200 in one go is alot of money, especially to skint students etc... Alot of fests are going this way, Glastonbury you pay £50 in October then don't have to pay the rest till April also I'm paying my Rockness early bird ticket up in three installments of £33.

also I dont see why people think the festival is slow to sell out, in 2004 tickets were on general sale on all websites up to May, and tickets have been on sale every other year if you want them (You could ring seetickets up to August last year and get tickets)

There have been years where it was easier to get tickets, although if you compare this year to the last three or four or to other festivals this year it's bound to raise an eyebrow or two.

It's something you plan for surely?

And before you say anything, I am a student myself. Not a well off one either, the nice middle groud where you don't get a huge loan and grant but your parents can't afford to help you out. And job market being what it is.

Anyway, if you can't plan on having the money in your account, how can you plan for having even basic spending money for the weekend?

When it comes down to it there are a lot more better things to spend £200 on. Say bestival, glastonbury, sonisphere - as it happens all reported to be selling well/sold out.

Perhaps because you have 3 months between Christmas and tickets going on sale which isn't alot of time to get the money together if you're skint. If you only had to pay 4 installments of £50 it would give you plenty of time to get the money together. As for spending money, you can spend as much or as little as you need. It's quite easy to do the weekend on a bare minimum if you're skint.

Has it not occured to those of you arrogantly lecturing others about money that this clearly isn't aimed at those who were always planning to go but is designed to bring in new punters who may not have 200 notes just now, but may impulse buy with the added-sweetener of an interest free deposit scheme?

I agree. The festival is too expensive for what it is but in the grand scheme of things £200 is f**k all really. If you're in a full time job, you should definately be able to afford it, if you can't, you need to sort your finances out. Students should be able to use their loan, or their part time job money - let's be real, there's not a student in the land that doesn't go out regularly getting smashed at what, £10 a night minimum?

The only people I could understand who can't afford it are the people with major debt or other financial commitments, the unemployed, or those living on the breadline, and kids whose parents are refusing to subsidise.

The people who most benefit from this are those who don't have £200 to burn all at once but who can blow £50 on four occasions between now and August and commit to saving up any spending money between now and the festival. I imagine those still at school or University with jobs planned for the Summer who can use that to pay the last instalments and spending money are who this is aimed at mostly.

Speaking as someone who works full time and is interested in the deposit scheme for various reasons, could you please advise 1) What puts you in a position to advise people you don't know to 'sort their finances out', and 2) By what criteria £200 is 'f**k all'?
