They could be supporting The Stone Roses on their tour then? I'd love to see that, and I do recall Ian Brown saying a lot of people would be unhappy about the support they'd chosen, so it might make sense.

MB is a vegan? Bloody hell, makes it even more annoying that's there's fuck all in the way of vegetarian food on-site, every year I live off chips and Saly Army soup, get a few more vegetarian food vans like the one in the arena.

Blur (only playing London Live), Roses (would they really work at R&L), Green Day (it's been said for a long time about them supposedly not playing R&L again), The Cure (that one's been debated here), Daft Punk/Slipknot (not touring), I'll give you SOAD but the fest has said about moving away from rockier/heavier stuff, LP have played in England every year for the last five.

With regards to some of them, and the rest you mentioned, I did say discounting them taking risks, which I just can't see FR doing anymore.

There's really not that many headliners who are: a. avaliable and b. in keeping with the direction of what FR want for the festival.

That said, I'd love them to take risks and go for someone a little bit different. It's not going to happen though, and I think the group of headliners R&L have to choose from will get smaller and smaller. It's also damaged this year, as mentioned, through other circumstances such as the financial crisis etc. I think if Kasabian, Bloc Party and Foo's are headliners, it's an awful set of headliners, but there's really not that many avaliable.

what does everyone think the chances are of franz ferdinand playing? they're headlining field day festival this year and are due to have new stuff out. maybe they could sub kasabian or something?

I've come across one in the arena and the queues were always pretty small considering the huge queues drawn by some stands. Is the other stand in the campsite? If so, I haven't come across it, which shows we could probably do with one more (or I need to look harder).

Both are in the arena. One was near the entrance to the main arena and the other was near FR stage in 2011. Both had much smaller queues than most other places, especially comparative to other good places such as Pizza to the People (though made the switch to vegan since so won't be visiting there this year).

That was new in 2011 then. Sorry if I was wrong, the BFG didn't work Leeds fest in 2011 so I was basing it on what I knew from previous years/what I'd seen this year. Vegan place has always had long queues. Either way, two isn't that much given the size of the site

Leeds has, honestly, the worst food of any of the festivals I've been to, and I've been to a fair few here and abroad. It's an embarrassment. My point is that it really shouldn't be the case when the fella who runs the festival is a vegan, he should really do more to make sure the food is healthier/better

There are differences between all of those cases and the original statement that R&L don't book headliners that do their own outdoor shows in the same year. None of those prove that "Lots of bands do big shows (stadium, often) and headline festivals in the same summer", because they don't when it comes to R&L.

What do we think the chances of Rancid playing are? I know Mike Davies has repeatedly said they cost too much for Lock Up, but what about main?

The reason the whole exclusivity thing annoys me is because in most cases bands will play almost every festival prior to getting to R&L, e.g. Kasabian, so while they are 'English Exclusive' thats only because they've played every other festival around!
