the only really inspiring bookings are Janes Addiction, OFWGKTA and The National. The rest are predictible ( except for maybe Madness and The Offspring)

Reading need to book more alternative acts and not base the line up on radio sales and mainstream rock radio.

the line up is as good as it is any other year minus the lack of a big headliner. The line up every year isn't brilliant, and hasnt been for years now. I go, but only if i can get a cheap ticket, as its not worth the 200 quid no matter how many people say " well Muse tickets cost this, MCR this blah blah etc" It isnt worth 200 pounds to see one or two bands that are good surrounded be 50 percent arseholes who have no interest if it isnt Prodigy or the like and see a show with poor sound.

Now at 100 pounds its more appealing.

i cant think of many bands they should have got that they could have booked, who werent already doing download or sonisphere.

i do think sonisphere has stopped the organisers being able to book a better heavy rock day, ontop of download already being around.

and the trends at the moment do dictate which type of music appears more on the line up.

who should have been added to the line up who currently have a new album/ are touring/available????.

I think in a way theyve got a fairly "fresh" line up,not too many bands that have played the last year or so,and bands that have appeared before havent appeared in a good few years.

lol, although in parts its a 2002 reunion. and there a lot of bands that have appeared a lot of times before even if not in a while, and its a bit weak in places, beady eye at the moment arent big at all,mcr just arent that big of a headliner, pretty unproven for a headliner.

maybe they tried but failed to get more bigger, better and less predictable headliners.

i hope the lock up is good and the dance line up strong for people who are big on dance music.

would have been better if they would have just had it as: PULP-MUSE-THE STROKES-

with mcr as sub headliner.

perhaps foo fighters, iron maiden or ac/dc? should have been booked as the rock/metal band headliner.

with mars volta, wolfmother, the darkness, korn being some of the good heavy bands added to the line up.

I do think its possible they have a few suprise announcements up their sleaves, both sonisphere and download happen before reading/leeds do,i could imagine some extra bands announced after those two festivals have happened.

didnt they add faith no more as nme headliner after they had played download?.

Not really, they've been pimping themselves out to the other fests for years. Good booking but not incredible, I've had loads of fun all the times I've seen them before but Specials would of been better since this would have been their last year of the reunion and their only major fest since they played them all last year. I gave a shout to Jane's Addiction and again really not incredible.

See now this is where we differ. The "Bog Four" for me is nothing special. Tenacious D was a good surprise and were very entertaining.... But not the most incredible thing in the world. Rob Zombie is awesome but it'd be a hell of a more surprising to see him at Reading than at Download.

Okay fine then we'll continue.

The Big Four thing seems to be an invention. Seems like something that didn't really exist until people started saying it. I mean how long have these bands been refered to as this?

The Big Four has happened before, did it not happen last year? If you're talking the UK then fine. But it's just one massive metal band, and 3 others who are kinnda irrelevant but suit the festival they are playing. If this happened at Reading it would be kinnda weak.

Madness are a festival band yes. But they are not a band that would usually play Reading. V festival, yes. Glastonbury, yes. But when was the last time a band who were massive 30 years ago play Reading. Very rarely. Even rarer when it's halfway down the lineup. Was the last one The Cult? But the Cult were hardly the hugest band in the world.

In terms of nice surpises we have Madness. The National being given the shot of a lifetime. Jane's Addiction who are a band who Reading should be booking but never seem to. 2manyDJ's being given a co-headline slot again (which is either really weak or really amazing however you want to look at it) to show people a proper dance set.

To me this festival they seem to have tried to make it slightly more credble than the last few years. Bar the obvious MCR f**k up.

Then why did you bring it up when I was talking about Reading? I've said that some bands on the lineup were an incredible surprise for me, and you talk about the big 4? I agree for Soni it's incredible.... but for me, and for Reading it's kinnda naff.

I was giving an example of magnitude. Libertines & Big 4 are things I don't really couldn't give a shit about but can easily see as incredible.

Just like Billy Bragg, Prodigy, The Fall, Echo & The Bunnymen etc. all of which are festival faves.

I agree but to be honest they do that already but just not as much as people would like.

Or you get overly defensive. ;) You wrote about various types of surprises and I was wondering about what "incredible surprises" you were on about and you then got into argument/debate mode when you asked me what I thoughy of Madness.

I've already gave my view on Madness at the other page.

Yes The Libertines was a big deal. But it also suits Reading. Big 4 wouldn't so it's kinnda irrelevant.

They do do it, but not enough really. They are stuck in a trasition, and seem kinnda confused about what they want to be.

Nah I don;'t get defensive. I just think it's stupid to discuss opinion to relentlessly. You cannot correct an opinion sir :) No matter how much you try and turn it around :)
