Staggeringly good headliners

Foo's are doing next year anyway. Think dave's intention all along has been to play the 20th Anniversary so this year is just make as much money as they can and play everywhere then Reading will be a UK exclusive next year.

MCR is becoming a bit of a joke that they're appearing elsewhere lower but they must have fans for Melvin to take the risk. I just hope theres good alternatives on. I'm really interested to what crowd they'd get because everyone ive mentioned mcr to who normally go all seem a bit meh. But i can see them probably getting quite a big crowd because some people just watch all the headliners regardless.

must say I agree borobud. Obviously Melvin is going to describe his headliners as 'staggeringly good', but when/if they are clearly poor headliners he only undermines his own festival and shows that he can't compete

I'm in two frames of mind about this.

I've never seen Muse before, and ive always wanted to, and undoubtedly one of the biggest british acts atm

The strokes, i don't like them, and i don't think they're deserving of a Headline spot, but i know alot of people will be happy with them.

And MCR, I really like them, but don't think they're a worthy headliner. Definitely a strong Subbing band.

But hopefully the other bands will make up for it.

A festival is about the whole line up, not just headliners anyway.

You have to base buying a ticket mainly on the headliners though as you won't know the entire lineup on the 21st, so if Melvin thinks MCR and The Strokes are staggering acts worthy of headlining the rest of the lineup can't be much good in comparison

That doesn't make sense, you're trying to apply logic to PR spin when logic would tell you the bands would be called staggering, brilliant etc no matter what and how it would relate to the rest of the line up wouldn't come up as based on Green Day headlining you'd expect similar acts in terms of style and not quality but right underneath them was 50 Cent which has no connection. A lot of people go to R&L don't like all 3 headliners as it's a diverse festival, normally I will go and see 1 headliner as the other don't appeal to like this year.

I'd also disagree with people buy tixs based on headliners as truth be told they are announced the same time and people are trying to gets tixs from the straight off rather than looking at the line up.

what I'm trying to say is by claiming the headliners are 'staggering' and then producing the rumours we have,he's undermining his own festival and proving that R/L can't compete. The likes of TITP are making a mockery of R/L this year.

presuming that the R/L headline rumours are right (cos that's what you've worked your idea from), what you're really saying is that your own tastes are a better fit for the much more poptastic line-up that TitP always has than they are for the more alternative line-up that R/L always has.

As good as Strokes/Green Day/Blur would be, I can't see it happening in the slightest.

But if Green Day were to play I can't see Strokes/MCR/Green Day happening also. MCR would probabley sub to Green day.

I wouldn't regard the rumours as particularly good, though of course the lineup might be completely different. I'm not saying that I prefer a 'poptastic' lineup, I'm saying that TiTP is making a mockery by having last years R/L headliner second, and this years rumoured headliner third down. R/L only has exclusive headliners because nobody else deems them 'good' enough to headline their festival

that's not true at all. They have different line-ups and placings in those line-ups because they're serving a different demographic.

In england there's V fest and R/L - two very different fests aimed at two very different audiences.

In Scotland there's (really) only TitP, which has always aimed at trying to please both of the demographics that V & R/L do separately - and so it's line-ups are programmed with that in mind.

That's all that's going on. If T looks better to you, that's because your tastes are more slanted towards the area it covers.

Thought so. I really like MCR, in fact they're one of my favourite bands that I haven't yet seen live (only Green Day, The Offspring and System Of A Down are higher than them on my 'need to see' list), but I really don't think they're big enough to headline, especially since they seem to be so polarizing.

I'll just point out yet again that exactly the same things were being said this time last year about Arcade Fire.

There were actually a very large number of people who thought them only big enough to headline the tent. How stupid does that idea look now?:lol:

Prodigy are alot bigger than MCR though.

And so are beastie boys probably

I think both of these are very unlikely. It doesn't look like Prodigy are doing UK shows, and one of the Beasties is ill with cancer so it seems unlikely that they'd be taking bookings for shows.

    • Very different in terms of time of game,  yet remember how excited I was before the first game in Euro 2016 having grown up not sure I would ever see wales in an international tournament. That day scraped a win against Slovakia and was just happy to see wales score and win at a tournament, little did I know we would finish in the top 4. Hope Scottish fans get the same experience.
