It was you who recommended them to me ages ago. Have been waiting about 4 Glastos for them to show up. Not quite what I expected, actually better. & they had the whole place (Avalon Cafe) up and dancing. :D

Chandrananda is a music lover with an ear for those special tracks. Her style is fluid and eclectic. Her sets are fresh and spontaneous. From her first gig in 2007 her style has evolved, and depending on the party vibe and on her mood she smoothly journeys through different styles. Sometimes she makes you dance to psy-dub tunes, deep dub with glitchy notes, and IDM; other times she takes you on a dreamy journey into more ambient moods fusing electronic tunes with world-influenced grooves and melodic sounds that touch your soul. Her enthusiasm for playing music at psy-parties has constantly grown, and she has become a favourite DJ in the chill-out rooms in the London psychedelic scene. She has played at some of the best parties in London and UK festivals like Sunrise Celebration, Waveform, Offworld and Cosmo. Chandrananda is a resident DJ at the Psychedelic Circle parties. Her name is of Indu origin and means Blissful Moon Goddess.

Guitar Wizard To Reveal His Tricks

West Yorkshire's own Jon Gomm, described by Acoustic Magazine as "One of the world's most gifted and inspirational guitar players", will be giving a special masterclass on his guitar playing at Alchemy Festival this year." As well as demonstrating cutting edge new ways of playing the guitar, there will be an open question and answer session, and Jon will be willing to share his expertise and secrets on all aspects of music from songwriting and music theory to making your living as an independent musician. "I'll answer questions on anything really! Except football and girlfriend trouble." Bring your guitar if you’ve got it with you!

Jon Will also be playing at the festival on the Liberty Stage :)

well folks

I'm made up to announce that Beta have been added to this years line up

18/09/11 - 14:30 - Kaplick Stage

Nuclear Prog, Jazz Mutant Punk, Groove Metal protagonists Beta

will certainly try and knock some semblance of shape back into those

overworked minds and body's and gear you up for the day ahead

With elements of stage show, heavily groove led tunes and as much energy

as a field full of springer spaniels high on amphetamine

we're certainly over the moon at the prospect at playing at this highly rated festival

Quite frankly can't wait

I am pleased to say that Back to the Planet will headline Sat night at Alchemy!!

press.jpg

The Back to the Planet scene was a quintessential part of late-80s Britain - unemployed musicians hanging out in a squat (bizarrely, in their case, a disused unemployment benefit office [The Dole House in Peckham]) and spending the summer with the New Age travellers on the free festival scene. It was the stuff of Conservative nightmares, and featured high in the government's catalogue of scapegoats.

All the more ironic, really, since it was a subculture with a strong streak of entrepreneurial DIY. After a couple of years gigging at festivals, clubs and raves, Back To The Planet produced a cassette-only release, Warning The Public (1991) and shifted over 5000 copies themselves. The band comprised the briefly named Fil (vocals), Fraggle (guitar), Carl Hendrickse (bass), Henry (drums) and Guy McAffer (keyboards). They gigged more or less constantly through 1991 and 1992, pausing only to release a single, "Revolution Of Thought", which embraced ska, reggae, dance and pop influences. As ever, they promoted it up with a string of festival appearances, including an infamous rave at Castlemorton in the heart of the English countryside, which the government used to whip up support for the following year's Criminal Justice Act - a bill specifically designed to outlaw Back To The Planet and their ilk.

In 1993 the band signed a deal with Parallel, who released their single, "Teenage Turtles". For an act who championed anti- fascist groups and causes like the Hunt Saboteurs, it seemed rather simplistic to blame a bunch of children's cartoon heroes for society's ills, but it was a great record - just the kind of infectious pop they had always threatened to make. If you need comparisons, then the closest in sound and spirit were Senser and Credit To The Nation, whose 'collision pop' similarly mixed rock with rap and dance. The band were by now one of the most popular festival acts in Britain - and their 'Who's f**king Planet?' T-shirts a mainstay.
