Eeeee lad. What a squad. Here is Soap Lands youngest sexual discoverant beavering away in bed with her Church compatraite.. and firstly doesn`t hear the front door open and bang shut... then doesn`t hear her mother bawling at the bottom of the stairs... SO000-FEH..and is ultimately cuaght in the act by SAL-EH.. who kicks em out to join exiled ROS-EH in "I Haven`t Had Sex Since The Electric Went Off In The Cab Office" Eileens house, which now houses about 7 retrebates.Kev and his bairn will be in there next...... but... thats nowt compared to what was about to happen at 8.55pm.

Who would have thought it? ... after a bottle of Cava and a Chinky-Boos... SALL-EH gets LIP off Tyrobot.

And I tell yer--it was the most uncomfortable and unreal screen kiss since Bella Lugosi had hold of Rita Wayworth in Dracula circa 1929.

Its was cringe cringe... and I shreiked in embarrasment. Ugh.

Conversely.. over in the Happy Happy land of our Pearly Kings & Queens.. this baby death story line is very very uncomfortable and ridiculous.

In years gone by--soaps have grasped social nettles such as homosexuality,drugs,murder--you name it... and even though a lot of the storylines could be pulled apart.. this latest one is awful.

Who, watching this in real life could possibly relate to this... its obviously shocking. Terrible... and I was even getting upset about it.

Death of a baby. Nah. The scriptwriters are not bringing any thing out in the open with this stupid twist.

Cot Death on its own.... well, you could relate to... but even then... I`m not sure if programs like this are the best vehichle to bring attention to it.

Esp amongst a squad of murderers, two-timers,druggies,thieves,nutters,convicts.

I`m gonna start watching Emmerdale, to get mesell some fresh air, on that farm and that.... eeee lad.

Opinions?

den

Have stopped watching stenders as I knew this storyline was coming up over new year - not sure when/if I'll go back to it. Corrie is always good for a laugh but missed the second episode tonight - sounds like a catch-up is needed!

eastenders is horrificly bad. i've overlooked my folks watching it and the scenes with the moody cow are awful. she's getting paid to stay silent and look a bit glum and worried. who actually enjoys watching that?

Den, you have gone down in my estimations I'm afraid. There is no excuse for watching soaps. No excuse. We dont watch them, and never have - and consequently neither do the kids.

the new opiate of the masses.

the eastenders storyline is awful. if they wanted to do cot death, fair enough, it does happen in real life. but the baby swapping thing is just ridiculous.

eastenders always make too many bad things happen to the same characters. ronnie has had one baby taken away from her, found her again years later then she died, had a miscarriage and then a baby died.. what are the chances?

who cares about real life. who these days only associates with people in their own streets and employees? and have little to no contact with friends who move.

if it mirrored society, it would be boring. my street has had no rapes, murders, tram crashes, explosions, multiple affairs (that i know of) in the 10 years i've been here.

Not sure exactly what yer meaning here Amps-but what I was saying was that the storylines before might have been mundane compared to now--but they were all mostly plausable.

You probably dont remember the Alan Bradley /Rita story.. at the time--wife beating? Discussed in public.. yer kiddin. And in that sense the soaps did begin to bring such issues to the fore.

But now--its just going too far. The difference seems therefore is that you see it purely from an entertainment pov.

Hey, I mean--fair enough--it is.. there is some real funny scenes etc--but I`m talking about the now-ridiculous plots that are on all the soaps..cos they have nowt else to plunder.

The Pearlies have always been darker than Correr but heck..whats gonna be next?

I'm telling you man if you want gritty reality, The Archers wins every time.

but they (the writers and the fans) 'justify'(?) it by saying it is like real life.

If it was supposed to be fantasy, it doesn't have much of an imagination, and it's not like real life... so what is it..?

crap is what it is ('stenders in particular)

    • It feels really busy this year, loads of big groups of youngsters too. Slightly different vibe to previous years I've been. As with Tramlines, they're very chatty during sets and there's a constant stream of them in and out of the crowd... definitely feeling my age 😂   The Quarry stage I think is a lot smaller than previous years - seems similar size to Squid/Leadmill. Some sets have been difficult to get in.   I think I've reached my limit with mid-tier indie guitar bands. There's been quite a few this weekend where I've gone over to see them then walked away after 20 mins. Surprisingly, enjoyed the Fratellis set the most in this genre. Probably getting on for 20 years since I last saw them. Wasn't expecting them to do Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, which was fab!   Hugely enjoyed the Happy Mondays yesterday, and same but different with Radio Free Alice who I saw again on Friday, following Tramlines last weekend. A big run of pop acts today - Scissor Sisters will be fantastic!
