Board Games...

Do any of you still play board games with friends/family?

We have some old favourites in our house but this year I want a new one for Christmas Day with the family.

I am looking for suggestions!!

We used to play Outburst a lot if any of you know that one -its great for getting all ages to play together. Can anyone suggest one that will happily fill the gap between Christmas dinner and snoooooze...?

Oh I love a good boardgame. Articulate is a good game for a group of people, as is Pass The Bomb. Balderdash is great fun too.

Not really in that style, but I got Carcassone for my mum for christmas last year, and it's a fantastic game, highly recommended.

I was always a fan of Pictionary. Great for all ages.

If its a group of adults then you can't go wrong with a game of Triv imo

Mystery at Hogwarts aka Harry Potter Cluedo. Great game!

Also another great game is Zobmondo which is an interesting one as it poses thoroughly unpleasant questions of morality, ethics, pain etc and you have to guess which way the other person will go. i.e. "Would you rather lie naked in a bathtub full of live roaches or dive head first into a pool of tobacco spit?" or "Would you rather have been a part of the construction crew that built the Golden Gate Bridge OR a part of the crew of Columbus' first voyage to the Americas?"

There is a new version out now which is slightly different and is called would you rather? However the old version can be played slightly quicker. Its really good to see how well your family know each other.

We're fans of a boxing day spent with Mouse Trap, fireball Island, Mystic wood, Logo, Pictionary, Cranium, Totopoly, Pit (not a board game but a good classic card game), and Ingenious.

For the last 6 years or so we've always played poker between dinner and bed, usually accompanied by a tin of Roses and a bottle of Baileys, with a break for the soaps. Goes on til the early hours and all ages can play - love it

For party style games, you can't go wrong with Cranium. Also, we were given Challenj! as a gift last year and that is good fun too

If you want a proper sit round the table style game, try Settlers Of Catan, Carcassonne, or Ticket To Ride. I have only played Ticket To Ride online, but have asked for it this Christmas

I was introduced to Settlers pretty recently, its a good game.

For this I'm looking for something thats a bit lighthearted, good for giggles and generally just gets everyone involved. Cranium has proven to be a bit confusing in my family though its great for a night in with friends.

Can anyone compare Cranium with Articulate as I think Articulate or Pictionary might fit the bill for this age group/mix of characters...?

Basically Monopoly but about horses. The original game has a set of horses you race along the table top by turning handle rather than however they now do it.
