Got Smallworld for Christmas. You have to conquer areas of the board, but there are different races and powers which get mixed up so no two games are ever the same. And you can kill your race off and pick a new one at any time.

Played quite a few games over the holiday and really enjoyed it

Taxi was a great game.

In slightly related game-type antics, I'd recommend a game called Mexis.

You will need a minimum of three players, two dice and a bottle of strong alcohol, and a glass.

Pour a reasonable measure of alcohol into the glass.

A player has three rolls of the dice to make the highest combination possible. The person who has the lowest combination after three rolls of the dice has to take a drink. After each a roll, the player can elect to hold one or none of the dice, or stick.

The combinations I tend to play off are 6-6 being the highest, through all the doubles down to to 1-1, and then singles of 6-5 then 6-4, all the way through down to 2-1.

To mix things up a bit, you can assign certain events to specific combinations. For example, a 6-1 could double the amount of alcohol in the glass, a 6-6 could allow the thrower to elect someone to drink the contents of the glass, and a 1-1 would result in the thrower having to drink the alcohol in the glass.

Perfect for office parties.
