An idea for the dedicated Glasto-goer.

I got a ticket. So this is not because I missed out but,

Why not have in Glastonbury a ticket office, with an allocation of say 5,000 tickets, and make it an event, where people camp overnight to get it. Create a glasto vibe to get tickets, allow 5,000 people or whatever to get into a campground, stay over night, and get their ticket in the morning, First Come First Serve.

Would be brilliant, and people would make friends they could meet up again at the event itself.

I think they should give priority tickets to people that take all there rubbish and crap home with them,

I can be in charge of giving out tickets based on cleanliness of area post festival..

You've not been to Glastonbury Town then i take it? Can picture the street the office is on filled with well over 5000 people all to easily, it wouldn't work.

Alternatively if you didnt get a ticket, go to a different festival. And if you go to small ones, go to several different festivals.

It would, and I remember being in the Glastonbury Town tourist info office in 1992 when they were selling festival tickets. But that was a different festival and those were different times.

A minimum of 5000 people descending on the farmhouse would be beyond utter carnage and kill Pilton for the day or few days around it. It's a shame festival goers can't wander round the farmhouse area anymore, it would give a real sense of context to what goes on, and how small and family/friends run it is at its heart. You can have a look at it on google maps here though.

Zoom out from that on the map though, and ponder how ticket day would go if it were all in person and held there.

I went in 1992, indeed a different time.

Saw adverts in the paper for the festival over a few weeks, chatted to my next door neighbour about it for a few days. Agreed to go, rang up telephone number and got tickets. Easy peasy.

Rang for tickets following 2 years with same success. And there were only around 80,000 on sale then. Although I'm sure there were the same number on site as today because loads came over the fence. Camping next to the fence was a very bad idea, if you didn't want people jumping onto your tent!

Tickets were on sale in the shope up until 2003 weren't they? I seem to remember 2004 was the start of registration.

The biggest problem with thousands of people turning up to buy tickets would be how do you make them leave? There would definitely be a core who would see it as a mini festival and hang around.

05 was the first year of registration I think and there was the great ticket fiasco in 04 when tix were going for as much as £2000 on Fleabay that caused this to happen.

My brother in law told me that he once went and bought tickets one time from the farm house himself from Michael and his then wife Jean. Apparently he was two pounds short on the money, and Michael had a right old stop before his wife stepped in and told Michael to stop being silly and give the man his tickets.

Seems you're right sifi, names and addresses

The name and full address of each Festival attendee must be given at time of booking. (i.e. the ticket holders’ addresses and not that of the card holder buying the tickets, if they are different.) Attendees names cannot be changed once ticket sales are confirmed, so please be sure all details are accurate when booking tickets. If you change your address between completing the sale and May 13th, please telephone 0870 120 0332. You will not be able to change the name on the ticket.

19 hours on the net in 2004,it was a fiasco.I ended up with 6 sets of tickets because it never confirmed you had bought tickets so you kept trying.
