Your post contradicts mine Neil in that I say one thing and you say another. It's exactly what you accused me of, hence being ironic.

The above is a load of irrelevant and non-sensical shit. Hung up on something are we?

ahhh, OK - I'll add telepathy to the list of expert skills you believe yourself to have. :)

It was defo deliberate. You can shoulder barge someone stepping in front of you. Rooney raised an elbow right up to his head. If it was a different player on the end of that and they rolled about on the floor in theatrics I reckon Rooney could've been in big trouble. Hes a very lucky boy. Fergie coming out with "the media want him hanged or electrocuted" helped too. Which is obviously why he said it. Shameless as it is, it may have just worked.

The post game punishment is hilariously inconsistent across all organisations though. I know its been a subject of massive disagreement here but remember Eduardo got banned for that dive/wasn’t a dive against Celtic? He got BANNED for that. Was eventually overturned but is still total madness.

its total bullshit.

article 77 clearly states that even if a ref sees an incident, the governing body CAN inflict additional punishments. The ozzies are doing, as are the japs. and even some italian (the 1st big league to do it) games are subject to total referal

also, remeber ben thatcher, yellow carded for nearly taking michael owens head off, yet the fa in that case retro activly banned him for 8 games

Article 77 Specifi c jurisdiction

The Disciplinary Committee is responsible for:

a) sanctioning serious infringements which have escaped the match

offi cials’ attention;

B) rectifying obvious errors in the referee’s disciplinary decisions;

c) extending the duration of a match suspension incurred automatically

by an expulsion (cf. art 18, par. 4);

d) pronouncing additional sanctions, such as a fi ne

the fact that most organisations dont do it isnt due to rules, but total and utter cowardice!!

I meant changing for success is what really annoys me, thus the two examples I used were people changing for clear success. Leeds went down & Chelsea got rich etc. I've got more but it would be boring.Yours is clearly different to that but I don't know the reasoning for it so can't really comment. I just couldn't change myself, which was what i tried to emphasize in my original post.

Any particular reason why, and at what age? Just wondering? To be fair I will go a long and watch my more local teams, and whilst I hope they win but it affect my day anywhere near the same was as if it was Liverpool. I wasn't really trying to say a change like yours wouldn't annoy me, it is something I just couldn't do myself. Of course, I don't know how big a Celtic fan you were. Was it match-going etc.?

I do know a family friend who got disillusioned at how impersonal/arrogant etc Chelsea became (and the whole of top flight football) after Abramovic and started supporting a lower division club (don't think it was even a league team). Which actually seemed quite noble, but for me again I can't ever see me wanting to change. Although he was a Chelsea season ticket holder too so the way football is headed, who knows.

And as for "daddy does", to me it doesn't seem that illogical. Plenty of people support the team their father supported, like their father supported before etc. Been to Anfield with my Dad and my Grandfather as a young kid. Makes sense I might feel some sort of bond.

yeah, it's just me that picks pointless arguments with you, definitely. You've not been accused of doing the same thing by many others, oh no. :lol::lol::lol:

Meanwhile, you've picked a pointless argument with me. I pointed out that what you said was wrong (and you've admitted since that it was - which makes me right in saying you were wrong), and now you just can't let it go. But it's only me that can never be wrong, oh yes. :lol::lol::lol::lol:

And to prove my point - or for me to successfully shut your pathetic words up - you choose to respond to this by doing.....? :lol::lol::lol:

yep, that's all true, but the English FA are taking the view that managers can't ever criticise their refs' decisions, so they're very reluctant to do it too - which is why they've chosen to take the angle they have done with things refs have seen or not seen. It's a clever way to try and present refs decisions as being right.

With this instance tho it would have been difficult for the ref to say there was an unseen aspect to what happened without having to admit that he gave a free kick for something he'd not seen happen - and I never expected the ref do own up to that.

Elbow for me & should've been banned imo, if not for this technicality rule which should've been reformed at the start of the season. Not convinced Clattenburg sees it. Might see them coming together in the corner of his eye, but probably more likely reacting to the crowd and a player being on the floor.

Read a few posts at the weekend on the United forums citing Gerrard against Michael Brown/Welbeck getting off and saying FA will be showing their inconsistency again* if now punish Rooney, but its bollocks. Revision of the rule half way through a season would've been a bit contentious, and Fergie's comments were probably made to influence against that, highlight his profile - you'd just be changing the rules because it's Wayne Rooney etc.

But I think adding Rooneys to those Gerrard challenges and them both getting off can't be a good thing for the game. It's pretty much acquiescing to the use of elbows. As above, think the rule should be reformed from the start of next season so no bias/accusations of inconstency can happen. A disciplinary panel already exists that can review incidents. Makes sense to me that they should be able to over-rule a ref if a incident justifies it.

Fergie's comments were just defend his player and deflect attention away. Be surprised if he didn't give him an absolute bollocking behind the scenes. Season defining stuff coming up, which begs belief that Rooney even did it <_< He kicked out in the Crawley game aswell.

Our next 3 games are Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal (assuming beat Orient in the FA cup) and Nani's our only fit established player that can play the wing positions in a 433, as Park,Valencia and Giggs all out currently. Last thing we needed is a suspension to Rooney as otherwise having to look to Obertan/Bebe or trying Hernandez/Fabio out wide.

Playing with 10 men for 80 minutes ahead of those games wouldn't have been optimal either.

*Gerrard got off last year with the Brown elbow, Rio got punished for the elbow in the hull game same week/week later. Gerrard got off this year for elbow on welbeck, few anticipating Rooney would get punished.

Oh, and massive congrats to Birmingham. Deserved it I thought.

Very interesting what ramifications this result might have on Arsenal's season.

Yep, they didn't do half bad. :)

It could go either way with Arsenal - it could spur them on to make sure they win other things, or they could lose heart.

But of course what they win isn't totally in their own hands - for example, if Utd lost tomorrow (not that I think they will) then Arsenal pretty much get to close the gap on Utd without doing anything for that to happen; so they might not really have to win the Prem, they might be handed it on a plate (tho that would be very un-Fergie-like if that happened).

Gerrard does get away with it. But that is because he is English. His Portsmouth one was very silly (bit of a backstory to it but still crazy), not 100% on the Wellbeck, thought that was a bit more accidental than the Rooney one. Youtube vids not workin for me atm so can't check.

Although let's end this debat by pointing out what a hypocritical c**t 'Fergie' is:
