The rules thing that some people get constantly wrong I've never even bothered to say about. They think they invented football, and I really can't be bothered with the flack. So I just laugh, and laugh, and laugh - at their gross stupidity and huge arrogance.

But its amazing how some people who claim to love the game so much and believe themselves so knowledgeable to slate others continually don't even know some of the basics.

local man utd fan moves to bristol and has a family. raises son to be man utd fan.

son lives in bristol and supports man utd and says it's cos his dad does. he then raises his son to be man utd fan.

that son has a son and he becomes a man utd fan.

that's three generations of man utd fans, when it should have really been three generations of bristol city/rovers fans. and you can switch man utd to liverpool, arsenal, chelsea, any big team. and substitute bristol to any other english (or irish, teehee) town/city lacking a major team.

all this does it make the rich richer, and the poor poorer. don't think there's any disputing that. but you will to justify why you support man utd, even through those horrific periods where man utd lost all their history and suddenly became a tiny club. i used that excuse when i was a celtic fan. i was raised through rangers 9 in a row and only saw one trophy through til p6. it was bollocks justification as to why i was not a glory hunter.

ps. i'm not talking about you strictly, i'm talking about our country as a whole. i realise there's not a league team in the isle of man. or maybe there is?

no there's not a league team in the Isle of man

but your point could be said about any team surely, even the lower league teams, if someone moves around the country but continues to support the team from where they were born i don't see a problem, the kids, grandkids etc will always follow the team in their family history no matter where they are from.

There will always be fan bases for any club and to say there will be no fans in 100 years time because fans of the bigger clubs move about and "steal fans" is ridiculous

It's nothing new at all, hence the reason you find fans from all clubs all over the uk

As i've said anyway, i get this all the time on forums, people calling me a plastic fan becuase i support utd, every utd fan gets labelled the same without anyone knowung the first thing about them...gets right on my t**ts :angry: there was actually football before sky and the premiership and boy did i live through the dark days when liverpool were winning everything

Then the Bristol City supporting dads who move to Manchester etc... Their kids should be Bristol City fans and it evens out.

The dads making kids support their team isn't the reason why the big get bigger. The big get bigger because they win things and 8 year olds who haven't been indoctrinated by their parents with a club adopt them. I know of two United fans my age who support them because of relatives. I know of about 30 who support them because they were 8 in May 1999.

yeah of course the children who see the big names in jjb and in their magazines play a huge role. but in livingston (which is a place inbetween edinburgh) is pretty much all celtic/rangers/hearts/hibs, because of edinburgh and glasgow parents raising their kids here. there was 1 livingston fan in the whole of my year at high school. and that wasn't much different throughout the other years that i knew of.
