To throw in my 2 cents, WHU weren't lucky yesterday, I watched the whole match. Brum were shite in the first half but they had WHU on the back foot in the second half and deserved their equaliser. However the way that WHU played with 10 men, and then went on to win it was not 'lucky'.

I think what you mean is that Carlton Cole was lucky to see Carson make an error. It didn't make the entire win chance, they got a result from playing pretty positively when down to 10 against a team with a solid defense. If every slight mistake by a player rendered the entire performance 'lucky' then what are we even watching it for?

In general, I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying - after all, is any incident a cock-up by a defending player, or skill by an attacking player.

But I can't apply that to what happened last night. It was huge cock-up by both players, and for that to happen for the same incident and the ball still end up in the net takes luck.

I agree that WHU played well with ten men (I posted as much very early on in this discussion). But what they actually did was not enough to win the game without the flukey circumstances to give them that goal. Without the flukey circumstances there would not have bewen that goal, and so there would not have been a WHU win.

But anyway, thank you for stating that Brum had WHU on the back foot. That's much more than TGT has been able to own up to.

Imo, WHU edged it over 90 minutes. Brum were the conspirators of their own downfall at times (having Gardener take their best free kick chance instead of Larsson, Zigic being twice the shower of shit Cole is, poor defending from set peices, a bad first half) and as such WHU were deserving of their win.

England keepers seemingly being prone to poorly timed lapses in concentration was lucky, as was Brum not really showing up for the first 45 minutes. I would say the pressure WHU continued to exert even after they went down to 10 men counted in their favour. They took advantage of some complacency.

I find the arguments here interesting and at times highly amusing, but I've got to say Neil, please start writing the actual spelling of the word 'through'. It made my eyes bleed every time i skimmed across it.

Hopefully all that will come from King Kenny's reign is a several thousand Liverpool fans realising that no manager can make a team of average, half arsed overpaid donkeys play well. Let alone a club great with a checkered record. Then again pig might fly, after all the georgies seemingly learned nothing from having Shearer in charge.

problem for us hammers is, we play amazing one game (like in the 1/4 final against man utd) then the rest of the time we are below average or piss poor (newcastle the other week). tbh i missed the first leg cause im at uni, but im going to the away leg, & im fully expecting the stewards to react to the smallest of things and react way over the top, just because its west ham fans, and that makes the crowd even worse..

happens all the time so im just expecting the result to be marred by "hooliganism", even though in the main there isn't that much trouble with west ham fans when we go away.

Whether hitting the target results in goal depends solely on the skill used and the oppositions reaction to the skill used.

With regard to Cole's goal, there was no skill used, because he f**ked up (and has admitted to that himself). And with the attempt to save, there was also no skill used, because Foster also f**ked up.

So it very definitely wasn't a goal scored with skill. So it must be a goal that was scored as a result of something else.

My take on the something else is 'luck'. I'm still waiting to hear what your take might be, but if you ever work out what I reckon I'll wet myself on reading it.
