From an 'outside' point of view, England aren't good enough to challenge ANY of the countries who regularly find themselves in the last 4 of tournaments. First and foremost, the F.A need to stop letting the press decide who should be the manager, pick the team and then write nasty headlines the next day when it all goes tits-up. If England want to be a success the the F.A have to stand up and have the bollocks to ignore the likes of the Daily Mail etc and make their own decisions.

Earlier on I saw the De Jong challenge for the first time (that I can remember). Poorly timed challenge that didn't deserve a yellow. Entirely unfortunate about the outcome but the uproar is f**king unbelievable: "thugs ruining the game", a legal challenge by Marsailles!

In answer to Q1 - to make money

In answer to Q2 - split fairly evenly into 3rds. One third favour it wholeheartedly (IMO the gullible ones that believe every word that comes out of Gold & Sullivans mouth - i.e they believe ticket prices will be drastically reduced). One third would accept it, but only if the running track were removed and the stands totally rebuilt for football. The last third are totally against it - due to the running track, poor sightlines, the fact we could easily end up like Charlton did, the fact selling your biggest asset is very rarely a good long term option, the fact we would very rarely be able to fill a stadium with a capacity of anything around 50k or above, the fact that everything in the OS needs altering - there are no facilities at all there in terms of toilets, plumbing, bars, food outlets, electrics, etc etc. All of this is currently going to be in temporary portakabins in effect outside the lower tier. The top tier is completely temporary.

Edited to add: a poll on one of the most popular WHU forums shows 73% are against the move IF the running track is kept. With a further 9% undecided. That tells it's own story and doesn't surprise me.

It does alter quite drastically if the running track was removed, which does surprise me.

from the point of view of just being a stadium (ignoring location, etc), then I can see how the running track is a huge issue for fans, so from the other side of that I can see how people are more into the idea if the track isn't there.

I'd wondered if the plan by the owners is really to put up with the track for a few years and then make a case for how the track makes the whole stadium unviable, and lobby for permission to remove it. In fact, doing that seems like a no-brainer.

The courts rule in favour of the yanks or delay the action, the Red Sox guys pull out of the deal and then on Friday RBS take over Liverpool, put them into administration and they lose 9 points.

But that won't happen.
