Leaving on the monday...

to avoid the worst of the traffic. I know it's a bit morbid thinking about leaving the site before we've even got there but we will have a long drive ahead of us and would prefer to cut our sitting in queues time to a minimum!

Any advice please?

Most years I wander down to the car on the sunday and move to closer to where the exits are, then like some god awful early morning exercise my mate makes me get up at dawn, pack everything and frog march down to the car for about 7am. Have always got off the site by about 9.30...the horror, the horror....

I think it is fair to say that any time mid-morning on the Monday will be busy.

Prob from 8-11 or so.

That's not to say you won't get out ok, but if there is a problem. Breakdown, accident etc then you could be hours.

I am planning on leaving straight after the headliners on Sunday night. Obviously this means no drink on Sunday, but I'll be scunnered with the drink then.

I do this for all main festivals and it really is a god send as the Sunday night is usually a bit let down on the site after the bands have finished and all people have to think about is getting home.

We are usually out somewhere between 6-7am and have little problem. Off site within about 20 minutes of getting into the car but still a bit of a crawl to the motorway.

We always think on Sunday night that theres no way we're going to get up early on monday, but somehow we always do. Feeing like shit but knowing it isn't going to get any better, it's just best to get that tent down and get going.

We left about 7am by the time we'd got packed up and got into the car in 2008 and was off site in about 15mins.

Last year we got in cars and were a bit later as a bigger group so got into car at 7.30am, straight into ques. Noticed there was a track behind us that was moving so gambled and took that and got out within about 25mins.

Our mates who stayed in that que were there for about 4hours before they got off site.

Personally I would love to get smashed on Sunday and leave late Monday, but it's usually about a 4/5hour drive home, plus have work on the Tuesday so it's never possible.

'Tis indeed a little morbid to be thinking about leaving. I find I start thinking about it at lunch on Sunday and start feeling sad before it's even over.

That said we've left early on the Monday the last few years (between 6am and 7am) - no issues

getting off site. Already a bit of traffic on the local roads but nothing too bad. My turn to drive home last year so no booze on the Sunday - I basically had a 4 day hangover kick in; pleased I saved a couple of cans of redbull!
