They knew what they were donig when they booked Blink to headline.

Whatever you think of them they have a massive fanbase.

The average festival goer may not know as many Blink songs as Kaiser Chiefs....or Foo Fighters or Kings of Leon.

But then again your average festival goer would not know many pixies or pearl jam etc etc.

There will be a big influx of day ticket holders just there to see Blink

At the end of day we are probably arguing about wording. To me green day have a massive fanbase. Wouldn personally put blink or arcade fire in the same category. Im sure they will sell day tickets but certainly not in the same numbers as last years headliners. However they probably dont cost as much, as you say the organisers know what they are doing!

It depends how you define weak, in terms of personal opinion you may find this years headliners better. However in terms of record sales in the uk kol, arctic monkeys and radiohead all blow blink 182 and arcade fire out of the water. As for 2008 and 2010 selling a lot more day tickets quicker, are there any stats to back that up?? I seem to remember the kol day selling out very quickly.

all a matter of opinion anyway..

i h8 indie shite so i wont be mainstage saturday [reading] - the day tickets sold are sold out. GnR mite be about the same - selling out nearer the time and the sunday ones for blink are already sold out according to seetickets too

so yeah even though its a few months on theres an indication some bands will have sold for people going down for the day only.

I think the fact the dance tent headliner is playing a free gig to 40,000 rage fans (who are quite a R/L crowd) meaning a decent portion of the crowd will have no incentive to see him again.

True but Radiohead drew a tiny crowd, so I wouldn't say record sales is a direct indicator if how popular a band will be at a Festival, particaully Reading as it's a somewhat diverse line up.

I haven't read all of this but I feel I should try and defend them a bit, being a fan.

Before the hiatus they were known for banging through songs live as fast as possible, which with Tom's poor (at the time) guitar skills meant many mistakes and a poor show. Even then anyone will tell you they were awesome live, they were voted best live band in some magazine at one point.

For me, their best album is their untitled 2003 album. The older stuff is nostalgic and pretty good pop-rock without doubt, but their last album was so mature and much much much better in my opinion than anything else they have put out. Alot of people who don't like blink have never heard it (except I Miss You which doesn't really help) and so dismiss it straight up.

Since the hiatus they have actually rehearsed (they never used to) and Tom's guitar skills have come on ALOT. It's unrecognisable and I am confident they will play a blinder of a show.

Overall, I would ask the non-fans to listen to the Untitled album (on spotify if you don't wanna buy it) with an open mind, and I promise it will change your mind about them.

Having said that, All The Small Things will have the biggest singalong of the festval.

Wow...

What people like and what people dislike about Blink 182 is entirely subjective. To me, they're just an average, mediocre, run-off-the-mill Pop Punk band who built almost the entirety of their career on a few penis jokes. Live? I can't judge because I personally have never seen them live. Videos on YouTube don't count - especially if they are professionally made.

Radiohead crowd at Reading was quite small (comparatively).

Loads of space to move around in, right at the front.

I was in a fairly similar place for all 3 headliners, could barely move for AM and KOL, nowhere near as packed for Radiohead (thankfully)
