been looking for a tent for a while..all my stuff is back at home and I wont be going back before glasto..so gotta buy new tent/sleeping bag etc

http://www.worldoftents.co.uk/vango-alpha-...ent-p-1876.html

looks good to me, I did look at a few tents on the millets site but they only had a hydrostatic head of 1500m (or it didn't even mention what the hydrostatic head was)

this is a tent for just me, I'd like it so there's enough room which is why I figured 3 man,. room for me, plus alcohol/sleeping bag/stuff,  no porch or middle bit but for a tent for just me don't need one I guess? hydrostatic head 2000m ..most importantly

anyone know anywhere else/any tent I should consider else this may be it! :P

thanks

i own that tent have never had any issues with it. I been perfectly happy with it when I used it at leeds 08 glasto and latitude 09, and all three of those festivals had fairly heavy rainfall at one time over the weekend.

It fitted 2 people comfortably with all their stuff, and it does have a small porch bit with its own groundsheet not massive but good place for things like chairs when you go out and for boots when your in the tent.

cant go far wrong with a vango, great for the price though obviously not the most compact or lightest of tents but then again not what you want from it really.

Just for you plenty of room Its bit squished with two people and and both persons stuff but can fit in there with no real discomfort so for one should great. Held up in the rain on the Saturday night to, wasn't much and the stayed put in the winds. The porch area is orite to, cept big group landed right on top of our tent and kept pushing it and its need to pulled out a bit to make it useful :P.

I ended up getting last years model even though I paid for the 2008 model as they had run of them and had took a while, emailed me saying I could have a refund or the new model for the same price :P So shop around.(Can't find the email for who it was now, but I think they were camping shop in cumbria if I remember rightly)

Is 1500 hyrdrostatic head really not enough? The kind young gentleman in Millets assured me it would be as I was considering getting this

Tent

for me and my friend, especially given the extras included... thoughts?

Also sly first post :P

That is an excellent tent for the money I have the Vango Alpha 400 that I bought just for myself before Bestival last year.

Light, easy to put up, little porch is essential as has been mentioned. Certainly only big enough for one person in comfort maybe two at a squeeze.

Here is a link to the 400, taped seams and 2000 hydrostatic head:

I've just had a quick look at the pitching instructions, and it looks like you put up the inner part first and then the outer bit.

This would be a problem if its raining when you're setting up. I think better to go with a tent where you pitch the outer layer first.

I'm not sure what make and model my tent is, but I think that this one does what I'm suggesting...

I believe a hydrostatic head is to do with the waterproofing. I bought mine a while ago but I think the guy told me that a hydrostatic head of 1500mm basically means that 1 1/2 metres of water would have to be on top of it before the pressure would be great enough to let the water in!

ETA: assuming, as others have said, that the inner and outer aren't touching etc. HH is a bit of a tautology because it assumes that conditions are perfect apart from the water.

I'm thinking of getting that tent for me and my friend (and possibly my boyfriend if he manages to get a ticket). Do you think all three of us (+gear) would fit? I'm only 5ft3 and don't take up much space, my friend is about 6ft and my boyfriend is 6ft3.

Me, my friend and another friend stayed in a different 4-person tent in 2007 (not mine, hence why i need to get another), and it fit 3 of us plus our stuff well. As this is a 4 person too, I'm just wondering why it would be a squeeze with only 2 people...

I've got a 3-man tent that fit 2 people (with small amount of stuff) at Camp Bestival last year and will do me (and larger amount of stuff!) pretty cosily this year :P

Yeah, be wary of the guidelines. They normally assume people with cars (i.e. no luggage in tent) or people who don't mind leaving luggage in the porch - neither of those are really an option at festivals.

I say two people with all their gear at a maximum, the rule is you need twice as much space as the manufactures claim, ie 4 man tent is for 2 etc. You could only fit four in if you all sleep like maggots, as the manufactures plan often implies.

Maggots sleeping:

I guess 3 is possible, but I would not recommend it particularly if you are there for the full 5 days
