Matt (lead singer) actually tends to drink a little bit before the set.. so its gonna be weird in the middle of the day, they would be suited later in the day i think but oh well.

They are so good live though, if anyones thinking about going, please please go.

An example of how epic they are..

Does anyone else who has been listening to high violet think it might even be better than boxer or alligator? It just seems to have this really powerful undercurrent running through it. Perhaps misses some of the slower, more melancholy moments of Boxer particularly but there are some amazing tracks.

i just got it today (release date) and have been listening to it nonstop. i hate to make judgement on day one, but yes, i agree, it could easily be their best record to date. great stuff...and 'England' is such a beautiful track as well. would work well on sat afternoon before the round of 16 match (even tho it has nothing to do with football or nationalist sentiment).

i'd like to think that i'll be voting this as better than the brilliant 'Boxer' by the time Glasto rolls around.

they're playing a hometown gig on Saturday in Brooklyn at a snazzy opera house

but best of all, it's being streamed live on YouTube, so check it out to see why you'll want to catch them at Glasto .

time will be 1AM in the UK Saturday night...i'm guessing probably later, as typically they'll interview them for the first 45 mins or so, and the show will start at 9pmish or something...2am GMT..

did they play more than one song on Jools last night? I saw the first song they did (I've completely forgotten what it was now!) and have to say I wasnt too impressed. I agree with you though that I think it was due to the poor sound in the studio rather than the band. They have way better songs than that one too. Annoying, as one of my friends who is coming to glasto was with me and he wasnt impressed by them. Gah!

LCD Soundsystem were utter dung. I dont know a lot about them but that song was dreadful. Are they better than that usually?

They only played the one last night, we will have to record Later on Friday to get a couple more. It was Bloodbuzz Ohio they played - understandable I suppose as it's the lead single on the album and I think if the sound had been right it'd have conveyed how impressive and powerful the new album is.

Got tickets for Brixton this morning through O2 - the general sale is this Friday for anyone interested.

Wasn't impressed at all by LCD - I know they have a really loyal following but in isolation I've never been blown away by them.

Yeh that's the one, I didnt realise it was the lead single. Not the best song on the album if you ask me. I was listening to High Violet on the way in to work this morning and Sorrow came on. That song is sensational.

I got 2 shiney tickets for Brixton too. The end of the year is looking quite nice for gigs for me so far - Primal Scream playing Screamdelica 26 November, then the National 1 December, Suede 7 December and a couple of free tickets for James 10 December (might get rid of these though). Lovely stuff

Just coming to The National, new band to me, listening to some of their stuff on youtube at the moment and it is very good, but it just adds to an already nightmare clash for me with Delphic in the JP and Ed Harcourt on the Greenpeace Stage.

Bloodbuzz Ohio sounds amazing even on my laptop

Yes, High Violet is on its third listen now, and it's beginning to creep deliciously into my subconcious now.

National tracks never hit me between the eyes on the first listen, but I know the more i listen, the more i hear. It is almost like when I listen to a track for the 25th time, I am listening to a completely different song. The main problem with this is convincing friends that they are a great great band...

Thing is I'd turn up just to watch them play High Violet, when you think of the quality they have to bring from the previous two albums you realise they could blow the whole place away.

I know you Glastonbury veterans will think nothing of it but even having experienced it before I still struggle to come to terms with how awesome it will be that within about 48 hours I'll see The National, Midlake (probably), Foals, Mumford and The Bees and yet also Faithless, Orbital and Holy F**k. Will be all over the place.

I fully agree that The National take a good few listens then it hits you. Actually my favourite band and have been for the last year. High Violet has grown and grown on every listen, Album of 2010? Yes!
