Glastonbury virgin! So...can you tell me what's the fuss about?

I have a few friends who have been to both and where as they have always enjoyed V they enjoy V due to the bands

Glastonbury is about so much more than the bands. If you aren't sure go walk upto the Stone Circle and then turn and look around, its way more than just a music festival

Glastonbury is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way to the burger van @ V, but that's just peanuts compared to Glastonbury.

Glastonbury is alot more other than just the music, V Festival from what i know after the last act on the shows it is back to the tent, Glasto has a nightlife with areas such as Shangri-La and Trash City , as well as the much loved stone circle!

• not music straight out of NME

• brothers cider

• Burrowhill Hot and Spicy and numerous other non fizzy proper ciders across site

Erm...random comparisons:

V...like Lidl/Aldi.

Glastonbury...the finest, most diverse delicatessen and whole food supermarket on the planet!

Do not spend the weekend just trying to see bands...go and find something that will change your life forever...you have already made a start by buying a Glasto ticket

Oh and in case anyone hasnt already said it...

YOU CAN TAKE YOUR DRINKS INTO THE ARENA...COS THERE ISNT ONE!!!

whatever you think you know about festivals forget it...

Glastonbury is not just a music festival its a total immersion experience that once done will be your bench mark for all your other festivals...

Been feeling a bit stressy and pissed off just lately so excitement levels for Glasto were flagging a bit...but after reading some of these posts has cheered me up no end

Only 11 weeks to go now!

I went to my first Glasto last year and was completely blown away. It's like a small town full of little gems and oddities around every corner. It really is about so much more than the main music stages. You could wander all 5 days, not see a single act on the main stages and be completely blown away.

The food, the stand up comedy, the random conversations with strangers, the pyrotechnics, the dancing, the late night areas, the strange tents and venues, the circus performers, the fancy dress, the cider, the great neighbours, the real ale, even the long/high drop toilets. It's all a million miles away from real life and utterly, completely wonderful.

I bought my ticket because my twin sister has been 3 times and tells me that it's amazing. I was always jealous when I saw TV footage but didn't think I could 'do' a festival for several reasons. However, once I'd conquered the toilets (pushed into one before entering the site) I was fine! I learnt to hold my nose and breathe through my mouth...or better still...didn't breathe at all for the duration!

My sister tells me you just can't describe Glastonbury until you're there...

V was good but then I have nothing to compare it to.

I'd never been to a festival before, and I was a little scared of the camping, the toilets etc. The line up didn't blow me away, but it was Glastonbury, that legendary festival, so I wasn't going to turn down a free ticket in return for a couple hours stewarding.

There's just so much there. So many things going on, so much happening. You couldn't be bored for a single second because there's always something to do, something to stare at. The mass of people is unbelievable - looking down over the fields from the stone circle literally left me speechless. It's huge, bigger than you'll expect. The atmosphere is pretty much addictive.

I honestly don't have words good enough to describe it, it's so damn good.

If you go, and come back complaining that it was boring, not mainstream enough, or not as good as V, then you can get off my damned planet

Using the above examples as metaphors - Glastonbury is the Daddy, the ultimate, the most respected.

V is inexplicably popular, and full of vomit.

There are some people who prefer V to Glastonbury, but as you can see from my example, they're quite clearly mental.

The mud in some places last year was ridiculous, I saw at least 5 different mud wrestling matches. I think that's what made it so good though, that no one gave a sh't how muddy it was, they were making the most of it. Only thing that kept me from jumping in with the mud wrestling was the fact I wouldn't be able to clean myself so easily afterwards!

It was? When did it rain? I can never remember the wettenings ever.

In 08 I was dancing like a loon in the uber rain on the Arcadia Stage on the Thursday night...only thing that was upsetting me was my Hot & Spicy became Tepid & Nasty and forgetting to put me gaiters on cos my boots then stayed wet for the rest of teh fest. Doh!

I REALLY dont remember it raining last year except for the funny part when we were all in the CT tipi as the 1am storm started (and the air filled with screams! ) and then just getting caught in the 5am downpour but we were back in the tipi minutes later.

When did it rain before then? I recall a storm on Thursday while at the bus.
