I suppose it's just taste really. I'm a fan of both, but looking at the decline of Liam's voice, and the way Peter has actually sorted his voice out and tightened it up recently in my view.

I just wanted to say, who really gives a f**k what 'musicians' do in the personal lifes. I'm a libertines fan, and by that I am looking forward to seeing them on stage. I am some what skeptical as I think it could be as bad as it could be good. But seriously, everything pete has done which is covered in the media hasn't stopped me from going to his shows for the music that not only he makes but carl makes, gary makes and john makes.

You don't need to like someone as a person to like the music, and you also don't know a person from headlines.

People seem to think that Doherty has just become famous because of his private life. He was famous before the drugs (admittedly not as famous but still) and when he left The Libertines, barely any record label would look at him and Babyshambles. Through the strength of their music, they worked themselves up.

You can't compare Peter Andre to Doherty. There completly different people and completly fanbases that they attract. The libertines got to the standing and fanbase they got from their music. Babyshambles were after the Libertines when Dohertys media life was at its highest, but did the record sales go hand to hand with the increase in media? No. The babyshambles album did worse than the Libs album. Andre's would have increased because he's market fanbase will lap it up much easier. Indie fans aren't like that. They're much more serious and care about their music and tho some will have an effect on higher sales, the amount will be extremly small compared to manufactured pop. Jamie Hince's publicity sky rocketed when he started appearing in the media a lot, but did the Kills do any better? NO Did the Gossip's second album do well after Beth Ditto's increased exposure in the media? NO. They're completly different music buyers, don't lump them both together. The libertines are where they are because there is a large amount of music followers who want them to play. Not becuase he's taking large amount of drugs or gone out with Kate Moss. Because of the music!!!!

Andre's return hasn't flopped... he is playing the O2 Arena and had a number one album

Evidently though, Andre's return also flopped. The effect I was trying to do draw upon is that media has a giant effect on, at the very least the big wigs at the top of production companies. You've got to agree that by publicising yourself in any way, is at the very least going to get people to give you a go (musically ). Surely the more people that know about a person the more likely he is to be successful?

I honestly think that the mention of Beth Ditto actually was the other way round, her public appearances when promoting the first album helped her popularity - and the bands. Appearing on, amongst others, the Friday Night Project (viewed by her target audience) raised her popularity because people liked her public appearance, then her performance of Standing in the Way of Control was remembered because it was "that fat girl who did that program with Alan Carr".

It's the same as, if I said to my mum, what do you know about Pete Doherty, she'd come out with well wasn't he that smackhead that went out with Kate Moss. Doherty's fame in the last 5 years has nothing to do with Babyshambles or the Libertines, by keeping his face in the public eye because of his behavior, he's remained in everybody's head - increasing the likelihood of a massive reunion. In my eyes anyway.

I love debating on this forum, but I feel I should say again, I'm not in any way agitated, just interested in a bit of discussion
