Nixy
As a life long Labour supported I view the upcoming elections with real sadness. I just can't believe they have cocked up to such an extent that the current Conservative party is seen as a credible alternative. I mean, Cameron. David Eff Face Cameron as our Prime Minister? My brain just can't process that at all. Can you blame people for not voting? For looking at what's on offer and thinking screw that? I'll vote Labour but it will be with a heavy heart. And I'd cut my hand off before I voted Conservative.

laid back in the sun
so if the efests glasto forum is representative of the british voting public it looks like we're going to have a lib dem government this time round i know it was a cold winter and everything but hell didn't freeze over

Breeze
Secondly, i hope people vote for labour. If you're working class and you're voting for the Tories you're a fool. Do you remember what they did to us last time they were in? Labour has done a lot for us and the Tories will send all that to pot. They'll screw the workers over again just like they did to the miners. Labour won't be perfect, but who else can you vote for? A vote for the Lib Dems or the Green Party is essentially a vote for the Tories. Edited March 25, 2010 by Breeze

worthyraver
Nor was I - however, the election was won on the basis of that war. Which means your statement "General Elections are won on the basis of domestic policy" incorrect. It might have been true sixty years ago, but it isn't any more. The press you see bang the jingoistic drums see.
sifi
Are you trying to say that Labour was re-elected, because of the war in Iraq??? I dont think you wont find much support in that view.
Admin eFestivals Posted March 25, 2010 Admin Share Posted March 25, 2010 The trillion pound ruin caused by the 30 years of Thatcherism from both the tories and nu-Labour will not be addressed by voting for a party that advocates more Thatcherism (and even more extreme Thatcherism in the case of the tories). If you feel that any of the slimy scumbag politicians are worthy of your vote than I suggest you bear that in mind.
CiderFiend
Change isn't change if you're just alternating between Labour and Conservative. I've been a Lib Dem for a number of years now, and i'm looking forward to casting my first ever vote (i'm 18) at the General Election soon. If Cameron is elected, i'll emigrate. bazakin
We shouldn't be asking what party. are we going to vote for. We are all being screwed by the system, not by whatever colour is in charge. As long as america control our nuclear weapons they can dictate when we go to war, Blair had no choice. Do you think Dave would had said no to the war? Most of the wealth in this country has come from the financial markets and has done for over 100 years. Thats why it doesn't matter who is charge, ultimately they will always choose whats best for the market and not for the people. my vote is for a revolution
worthyraver
No. I'm saying that the Thatcher government was re-elected because of the Falklands War.

Breeze
Then to go there and against all the odds to prevail, is a totally different scenario to Iraq, where there was only ever going to be one outcome.
worthyraver
Yes - complete and utter disaster. So why didn't it take balls to fly in the face of the entire country to take us into Iraq? Not that I'm bigging up Blair but I find it a bit distasteful having a virtual dick-waving contest between the two most disasterous PM's we've had this century and their 'balls' (read bravery!!!) at taking us to war. bazakin
This is nonsense - they can neither dictate when we have a nuclear nor conventional war. Do you think the British Army would go to war if the Prime Minister said no? You're giving Blair too much credit ('Poor old Tony his hands were tied!'). This is bullshit - Blair himself pushed all the buttone required to get us to war - in many cases in the face of opposition within his party and the government. Blair is a scumbag - you can't give him a pathetic 'out' like this.
bazakin
Falklands is a very special case I think the difference you are struggling to put your finger on this: Falklands was just the UK and no-one else, not being lap-dogs to the USA. The prevailing military thinking at the time was, dont be crazy, we have small navy and air force we will be thousand of miles away from support, we have seriously high chance of getting a seriously hiding. Margaret Thatcher went in to this knowing it could be a military disaster and more importantly, for her at least, political suicide. That decision took balls the size Gibraltar, something Blair and Brown wish they had I have no doubt. Then to go there and against all the odds to prevail, is a totally different scenario to Iraq, where there was only ever going to be one outcome. To really drive it home that elections are won on domestic policy, Winston Church won the second world war, maybe not on his own, but he was certainly on the winning side, lost the election in 1945. The lesson in political history now ends, thank you.

JimOfTheJungle
Well this is a pile of shit - the reason we're in such a f**king mess is because complete old guard 'I've always voted Labour' cock-ends have continued to vote for them even when Blair turned them into the Tory party. They effectively empowered Blair to take the entire country to the right - nice job you morons. A few New Labour achievements - Pushing the database state, detaining aged hecklers at a party conference under terrorism legislation (no chance of this government abusing any powers we let them have is there?), the richest people in the country paying no tax whatsoever (non-doms), PFI (don't get me started - my children will still be paying big business through the nose long after I am gone thanks to this nightmare), 3,500 new crimes (and counting) - most of which are complete bollocks, maintaining an unregulated financial services industry (a principal cause for the economic f**kup we are now in and are paying for - it might have been initiatied by Thatcher but it was maintained by Blair/Brown), selling the UK gold reserves at bottom dollar (nice one Gordon you financial genius), need I mention Blair invoving us in the Iraq war (no-one has explained to me yet how an elected PM in the UK has the moral authority to take a decision that results in the death of >100,000 Iraqis)...and on and on and on...these guys are close to making Thatcher (may she burn in hell) look like a mere simpleton So my question is - how many Grade A, 24 carat cluster f**ks does New Labour have to make before people snap out of the two party them and us bullshit. Wake the f**k up - vote anyone but Labour or Tory - a hung parliament and subsequent significant electoral reform is the only thing that can save us. /rant Edited March 25, 2010 by JimOfTheJungle
Helsbels
I'm going to vote Lib Dems this time round. So many people say they would vote for them but there is no point as they won't get in. If all the people that said this actually bothered to then vote for them they would do pretty well I reckon.

llcoolphil
It's funny. People always say we're in such an f'ing mess but i look around and everything seems much better than when we last had a conservative government. I fail to see how the Labour government can be blamed for the worldwide recession.
